Hi Everyone, I'm running SL on a PB 12" 867, and it works pretty well. My wife has a Dual USB iBook 500mHz, and I tried to install SL on it, but when I try to start up the client, it crashes. I know her computer is far below the minimum requirements, but I've seen some other folks on the forums here who are using below-requirements computers. Has anyone tried running SL on a Dual USB iBook? Is this just an incompatibility with her graphics card? Any ideas? I would love for her to be able to play SL with me. She would love it. Thanks!

When I'm on Macs, it's either my 12" Pb G4-867 or my cousin's iBook G4-800.
Um, I believe I heard someone got it running on a G4 Cube...
However, it looks like the iBook you have is a G3... and I believe that the client requires the G4 since it has some Altivec optimizations.
Sorry :-/

Your welcome, anyhow... not sure what your financial outlook is, but the new G4-800 12" iBook is a grand, I believe.
If you're not looking for portability, I think the G4 eMacs are under a grand...
Oh, just checked the Apple site... iBook and eMac start at $1099 and $799, respectively.
Good luck.

I have a G3-800 dual-USB iBook, but as it's only running OSX 10.2.x, I'm unable to check out SL. If anyone's been able to get it working at all, I'd be very interested to hear about it.

I just paid a big chunk of cash into my Visa card, and I have a fair amount left to go Ah, responsibility.

I tried it on my iBook 800 when I had it... It ran like a P.O.S. Just like every other program did on that thing. I like to call those computers "crackintosh" or "crapintosh," or also, "crapple." hehe.

I'm using an iBook G4 1Ghz 14.1" 256Mb DDRRAM with an ATi Radeon Mobility 9200.
The performance, graphically, is great, but the real problem comes with LAG.
It's just unbareable.
I'm sure that part of that is because the Mac version of the client is still in Beta.
Is the Mac version ever going out of Beta?

Hyo, version 1.3.0 of SL will boost your Mac FPS a LOT, possibly 3x what you're getting now. I briefly tried the 1.3 preview on my iMac, the performance was even better than on my PC! 1.3.0 will be officially released on Monday.

Marcos how much RAM do you have? It can make a world of difference not only in SL but in everyday Mac life. Programs like SL and Photoshop eat RAM for breakfast (Frosted RAM Flakes, They're GRRRRRRRRRREAT!). The OS itself is a RAM hog too. I have 768 MB on my Powerbook G4 1GHZ and SL runs pretty well, save for the lag.

RAM isn't my problem. My wife's problem is that her iBook is an older Dual USB 500 G3. I'm interested to see how people fare with v1.3, because I'm considering trying to get my wife upgraded to an iBook G4 800.

I have an ibook g4 - 800, it runs a little slower since the latest update - i don't know if i messed around with a setting that changed it, or if it was the update. Came here looking for tips to get it to run better! Its not completely unbearable, just a little frustrating
