What happened to my avatar?

My avatar is...um...changed. I click on shape, and the only option available is Create New Shape. Skin, likewise. Hair: Recovered from lost asset. Etc. What happened?

This sounds odd. Can you see yourself?
I'd like to try some stuff to see if it helps Susan. Buzz me next you're in world to let me know if it worked.
Try tweaking your appearance:
Hair, Shape, Eyes, Skin..
Saving it all individually,
logging out and back in.

Either way let me know.. I'm typing this workaround from memory..

Last week I was in the world. I teleported. After I teleported, I was invisible and could not see myself. Shortly after that I got bit by the flying off of the end of the world bug, and it was after 10pm so I couldn't get back in.

Anyhow, I went back in the next day or so, and I could see myself but my hairstyle, makeup etc. was gone. My clothing was black, and I had 'holes' in me, where I could see right through to whatever was on the other side.

I haven't tried tweaking my appearance. Most of the options in the categories are disabled except for the "add new" button - I'm not sure if it says "add new", but it says something to that effect, indicating that I don't have that item, be it clothing, pants, hair or whatever. I thought I'd post a message before touching anything in case anyone wanted to see it as is.

I should be online tonight. I'll go through my appearance and see if I can restore it, and I'll let you know how it worked.

I went back in and tweaked all of my settings. My avatar still has these jagged see through holes in it. Look at this pic:

I just tonight realised that everyone else looks the same way. Everyone has holes in them. Someone suggested it was my video drivers. I can accept that, BUT why did it work last week? What changed? And why did my appearance get reset and I have to add things like skin and pants and stuff, and reset my hairlength and so on? And why does it say "recovered from lost asset" in my appearance? Is it a coincidence?

I found out last night with the release notes that the 'holes'
are caused by problems with your video card that will be fixed in the forthcoming release.

Sorry I didn't know until now.

I read that in the release notes, but I could swear it did it in the previous release. Maybe this problem was introduced 2 releases ago? At any rate, I'll just sit tight and not worry about it for now.

The nvidia card problem, where the two methods are no longer supported, is maybe not as clearly defined in the release notes as could be.

The two methods stopped being supported in the nvidia drivers after 42.xx. Its one of the main reasons I haven't upgraded my drivers. Everytime I do upgrade I would log in and see what you see, log out and roll back my drivers.

Summary:
The 41.09 drivers should not have this problem. The 43.x drivers do.

Even older versions of SL (pre .5.0) have this same error if you have the 43.x drivers.

Part of the confusion may be the close timming between .5.0 release and the official release of drivers later than 41.09.

Had the same exact issue yesterday after updating my drivers as requested when I went to download the new client. Just did as Ama says and rolled back my drivers, relogged and viola. Problem fixed.

OK, I'm cool on the drivers and the holes in the Avatars.

What about the avatar loosing it's settings and the "recovered from lost asset" messages? This has nothing to do with drivers. It does it on another machine that does not have these driver issues. I can live with the holes, but my avatar also lost it's settings, clothing, etc. I'd look at my appearance settings, and see a lot of of "recovered from lost asset" messages. I'm guessing that either their database crashed, or my records got corrupted. Does anyone have anything definitive on this?

sounds like it got corrupted. I remeber one user's pants got corrupetd, and she would crash whenever accsesing her inventory because of it. I personally think it was just linden labs trying to get her out of her pants.
