I have DirectX 9.0c installed. Out of curiosity suppose I have an old graphics card installed on my computer that doesn't support DirectX 9.0c but rather an older version. What would the effect be on my performance in running Second Life?

If it will run Second Life, it's going to be very slow, and you will not be able to activate some graphics features.
