Downloaded SL keeps running Open Grid

I haven't posted here before, bear with me. I downloaded the Open Grid Public Beta as suggested by an in world Mentor to resolve an Inventory issue. Didn't work.... so I uninstalled it and went to run regular SL again. It loads, but it loads the Open Grid Beta every time! I have uninstalled SL, deleted all files (that I can find), rebooted my computer, re-downloaded regular SL, reinstalled regular SL, and the same thing happens, it loads the Open Grid Beta.
I download the regular SL from the Download link, it's the correct version, for Vista, install it, it's named correctly, installs ok. But every time I go to run it, it runs the Open Grid again, I can't get to regular SL!
There has to be a file somewhere that's causing this, but I have no idea what it could be, I've done searches and deleted everything to do with Open Grid and SL, it still does it. Help!

Try this:

Right click your SL icon, select "Properties" and see if the "Target" line is something like this:

"C:\Program Files\SecondLife\SecondLife.exe" --channel "Second Life Release"

If it is, start SL but don't log in. At the log in prompt, press CTRL-SHIFT-G and select Agni then try logging in.

Hopefully, one of those suggestions will work or someone with more knowledge comes along to help.

Why would a mentor suggest doing that?

It's possible that a problem in a Linden Lab viewer could be corrected a third party viewer - such as the often mentioned Cool Viewers, Nicholaz viewers, etc. It's also possible that a person might think a problem could be fixed in an alternate viewer even though it's not, i.e, they might have heard a rumor.

If you
1. uninstall SL,
2. delete the Program Files Second Life folder, and
3. delete the user settings folder , which in a default installation on XP is at C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\SecondLife\user_settings , and
4.delete any additional shortcuts you made for starting SL, then
5. reinstall SL, you will probably be ok.

That's not exactly a third party viewer, though. And there are a bazillion warnings on the wiki page telling you not to do it.

Where and where are the warnings?

I don't see warnings on the main page http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Open_Grid_Public_Beta or the FAQ page. (but I'm getting ready for work at the same time as looking at it.)

This particular viewer has largely escaped my notice.

It is of course possible that it wasn't a mentor that made the statement, or that what was actually said was "OpenSim" as opposed to OpenGrid.

Are you thinking that something bad will happen as a result of using the OpenGrid viewer?

No, I'm just curious as to why a more complicated beta viewer would be recommended to an ordinary resident with an inventory problem. It just seems a bizarre thing to suggest to someone.

The warnings, true, are mainly just about mistakenly thinking it's for the preview grid, on the d/l page.

Beta grid can not correct inventory issues from main grid. I can't understand why Mentor suggested that.

From: someone
Actions you take on the Preview Grid will NOT be reflected on the main LIVE Second Life Grid.

It's not the beta grid. It's the gridnaut beta viewer for developers who are crossing to different grids. It's the viewer that is in beta. It's for a program in its early stages to log in from SL and go to OpenSim.

Just to make it clear, the beta grid now doesn't require a separate viewer; this has nothing to do with the beta grid.
