Just joined SL and when I tried to log in after it all downloaded and installed, it wouldn't let me log in. As it was doing the "regional handshake" I got an error message that told me I could teleport back home or try again later, but I haven't even gone home yet because I can't log all the way in.

Access Preferences on the login screen under Edit, go to General and tick the "Show start location on Login Screen" (or whatever it's called). Then login somewhere else.

If that's not it make sure AV isn't interfering. You may need to set SL to "trusted." Norton can be horrible (I'm sure McAfee is just as bad).

There's info on ports and things in the Knowledge Base.

Resetting everything never hurts.

Might be useful to provide your system specs, such as amount of ram, operating system, type of video card, amount of video ram, and so on., wired or wireless network, firewalls in user, etc.
