My friend wants to get in SL and is buying a new box for that purpose. The Celeron 2.0 is a hell of a lot cheaper than the P4's. Will the Celeron 2.0 work in SL? THe same box includes a bunch of memory and a 64MB GeForce4. Is this sufficient? She wants to order now--so the sooner the answer the better. BTW--I posted this up because the specifications of SL indicate P3 800MHz or higher. Obviously the Celeron 2.0 is higher but I do not know about Celeron compatibility with SL. Thanks, Ethereal

It should work just fine. If she is buying a "new" celeron, they are closer now to the P4 chips than their older cousins whiwh were more related to the P3 chips. Sounds like what she is getting should work just fine for her.

What kind of machine is this? I have a 2.3mhz Celeron in my eMachines T2385 Minitower. Unfortunately, I'm not at home, so I can't tell you much more. I bought it last weekend. It works pretty good. I had to go with a GeForce4 MX PCI card (and, yes, I know that's only as good as a GeForce2, etc, etc,... NO ONE has avoided telling me that AFTER I bought it. So, anyone reading this, just say to yourself "What an idiot" and go about your business.) It works a LOT better than my 860MHZ Sony Viao with the GeForce2. If he has a proper AGP card in his, he should be pretty happy.

It is a generic from the Internet. Just a P4 main board with a Celeron 2.0 Mhz processor. I am waiting to hear back from the Knowlaege base about this issue also. Thanks

I really appreciate the replies that I have gotten so far, however I am suprised that I have not gotten a definate answer from the Lindens or anyone. It seems that someone would know for sure if a Celeron 2.0 Mhz processor would work with SL. Hummmmmm.... Still waiting. Thanks again.

We haven't done much testing on Celeron systems, but several beta residents do use them and I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work. The performance won't equal a 2Ghz P4, but should be reasonable.
