Can't remove a shirt?

No matter what I do, I can't go barechested in SL. Whenever I remove a shirt, a particular rather dressy white shirt reappears in its place. I can't even figure out what the culprit is, because it doesn't show up when I search on "worn" in inventory. Anyone ever have this trouble? I look silly in swim trunks and a dress shirt.

*peeks at the join date* I'd guess you're old enough not to have one of those newbie skins that come with the shirt as part of the skin? :p

The obvious and easiest suggestion would be to try rebaking (Ctrl-Alt-D for the Advanced menu... then Advanced / Character / Rebake Textures... or Ctrl-Alt-R).

If that didn't help, there's a long way around that helps as long as your skin is copy... some of the steps are redundant, but even though you can skip some of them, the entire set usually helps everyone :).

* find somewhere where you can be naked and take all your clothing layers off (attachments are fine)
* wear another skin, if you don't have one, grab one of the default ones from the library
* left click on your regular skin in inventory and copy it (Ctrl-C)
* make a new folder (so you can tell the copy apart from the original) and paste a new copy into it (Ctrl-V)
* Edit / Preferences / Clear Cache and relog
* wear the new *copy* of the skin
* click your heels together three times, think good thoughts and rebake :p

That generally helps most everyone I've come across with the problem :).

---

If the skin is transfer, but mod, you can try adjusting one of the sliders and go through the same process (obviously you can't copy it then), but I'm not sure if that would help.

If it's transfer and no mod, you could try giving it to an alt, clear cache, relog, get it back and wear, but again, that would be a guess. I never met anyone with a transfer skin who had that problem.

---

If nothing helps you can always contact the seller and ask for a replacement.

Thanks for those very helpful tips, Kitty. It hadn't even occurred to me that the skin might be part of the problem. I'll try your suggestions. Thanks.

Edit: since you mention my join date, I should mention that today is my 3-year rez day!

Oooo congrats! Happy rez-day to you.... happy rez-day to you :p.

Hopefully you'll manage to get shirt off :). The cause is usually a corrupted (baked?) skin texture, for some odd reason a copy seems to fix it when combined with a clear cache relog (wearing the original after that still has the problem for a lot of people which makes it odd that the copy should be fine :eek).

Well, rebaking worked! I switched to another skin, rebaked, all looked fine; then switched back to the original skin, rebaked, and the pesky shirt finally came off. I didn't have to make a copy of the skin. It's an RaC skin; I didn't check whether it's copyable.

I'm always forgetting about that handy rebake option! I try appearance mode and forget to try to rebake.

Anyway, thanks for your help, Kitty! And thank you for the rez-day wishes! Three years!
