First off i read that linden blaims Vista for this but skype work with it just fine so its not a vista issue.
I have a creative x-fi surround sound speaker setup i want all sounds to come out of. I have the realtek onboard sound for headset and mic.
This all works great with skype. This does not work with second life.
I am running vista with sp1 rtm and latest 1.9.0(5).
IS there any word on making this work in SL setup like that or is SL not smart enough to do what skype can?

It could be an issue between vista and the voice chat program SL uses... Just because Skype works does not mean anything...
You have set your default output to the main speakers you want out, and set the voice chat input and output to the other you wanted? I'd think it might work, but there are some bugs I've noticed with SLvoice and choosing inputs/outputs.
I haven't run much on Vista, but it might be a Vista incompatibility because I often have sounds going to different inputs and outputs on Leopard, needing SL sounds going one place, with where my TV is going (its hooked up through my computer), and needing just the voice chat going over my headset. My headset is USB, but it has its own sound card built into it (basically) so its like running dual sound cards, and I can get it to work in SL the way your saying you want yours... I'm guessing when they say its Vista, they just mean it only happens in Vista, not that the bug is in Vista.

if something works (skype) and another doesn't (SL) than its SL's fault plain and simple. If nothing worked than it would be Vista's fault. Simple logic there Spock would say.

Never said it wasn't SLs (Well SLvoices which is a separate program that runs in the background) fault... I'm just saying if it doesn't work with Vista, but with other OSes, its an incompatibility between the two that needs to be fixed.
but it is also possible its a Vista problem and not SLVoice... its possible Skype found some type of a work around to the bug thats its using.
When it comes to computer programming, its not usually as plain and simple as it seems.

Maybe RealTek Problem?

I'm just learning new Vista system - Athlon 64 X2 that has the RealTek on board sound and have also had problems with SL but have also had similar problem with Windows Media Player. Sounds loose localization distance and come on full volume untill I play with some volume control. Have most up to date RealTek drivers so thinking of an outboard sound card of higher quality.
