Last night I was trying to use a ATI 4850 X2 i use the RC viewer but seems that SL does not support any dual GPU cards i herd something about this before but thought this would be fixed by now Guess not .. textures were all messed up and spiky Hope this will be fixed in time cause in time 50 pct of SL players will have dual GPU video cards.

Hope this will be fixed in time cause in time 50 pct of SL players will have dual GPU video cards. When do you think 60,000+ logged in users will ALL have Dual Video cards in their machines?? I cannot ever imagine buy TWO video cards for SL. A quad core and a single high end video card, sure, but 2 for me is over kill. How fast can things really get? It is like watching a movie, 30fps is the norm, but you can do 24fps, or even 16fps and not notice a big difference. I don't think 50% of SL users will ever have Dual VideoCards unless they do what Intel/AMD have done which is put more cores on one CPU, which made 'dual cpu's' 'the norm'. _____________________

well i don't use it just for SL .. lol .. just so happens i do play SL on top of the other games. Still don't change the fact that SL should in fact support it Come on get with today's times not 10 years ago. and it's not for speed .. some people use 30 inch monitors running at high rez and 16x antialiasing .. If i wanted my games to look like crap i would go back to Dos days

If i wanted my games to look like crap i would go back to Dos days Ok, so 'games' that do not run dual video cards look like 16 to 256 color, 4-8mhz games... Well, i guess the video card enthusiasts will speak up. I just do not know if that is something that should be on LL's priority list until dual video cards become more of a standard and not an enthusiast thing. My first computer was 550mhz dual celeron, my next was a dual 700mhz pentium, the next was a dual AMD Tyan Tiger, after that came Dual Core machines... SL never used the 2nd CPU, and neither did EQ (the game i had the first machine built for) - did not stop me from wanting what could possibly be 'the best environment' for both EQ and then later SL, and now SL can use multiple threads and take advantage of multiple cores. Some changes happen when needed and when standards change. I suppose when GPU's can have multiple cores, or all the major computer builders and stuff start producing only machines that come with dual cards or ready for dual cards, then LL may change SL. But who knows. I don't know anything really when it comes to this stuff at all, i am just thinking aloud. And more than likely, Argent, or Peggy, or Chosen, or Dante, or Viktoria will come right in here and say "Oh LL is adding that in the next update or in 6 months" leaving me wrong as usual when it comes to tech stuff. ![]() Ultimately, anything that increases the experience even for fringe users would be a welcome upgrade that some of us would eventually be able to take advantage of adn that is a good thing. ![]() _____________________

textures were all messed up and spiky Disable OpenGL Vertex Buffer Objects. Under the Edit menu, go to preferences, graphics and select hardware options. Uncheck the box marked Enable VBO. It's an issue with all ATI graphics adapters, not just Crossfire setups. _____________________

I run a pair of Nvidia 8800GT SLI cards in Alternate frame rendering mode 2. I rarely see a full doubling of my FPS when compared to when I had the single card. But, no lag on me! =^-^=
For an upgrade, I'll be going with a single co-op card. I'm looking at the GTX 295 that EVGA put out recently. That bugger looks serious. (^_^)y http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130504 Chicka-chicka-yeeeah! \(^o^)/ _____________________

a solution to crossfire crashing on loading
08-10-2009 13:46
This may not work for all but i am running 2 sapphire 4870's in crossfire setup
when i first installed all SL would do is lock up the whole machine or crash totally/BSOD unless i disabled crossfire so after some searching i stumbled across this article http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=51219 after following the instructions on installing that freeze/crash has totally dissapeared and i can leave crossfire enabled (it also improved framerate on some other games ![]() hope this helps someone out there |
