I've been on SL for over a year and a half working fine, and the new release does this for me. SL support says it's that my display adapter is not supported (even though it's worked fine for a year and a half and still works if I roll back to an older version).
What I found I had to do with the new release was go into preferences and change the graphics settings to Low quality. Then custom adjust the settings. The one setting that causes the crash is when the basic shaders is checked. I hope this helps. |

It's useful to provide the exact text of the error message, not a paraphrase. You might take a screenshot, or copy it exactly with a text editor, or just write it on a piece of paper.
Also it's useful to describe your computer system. If the computer has a brand and model, that can be quite useful in figuring out what causes a problem. The type of processor, speed, amount of memory, operating system, type of video card, amount of video ram, etc. At the login screen, before you try to login, you can do Help, About Second Life, and see a dialog box with some of your system information. You can highlight that text, press control C to copy it, and paste it into the forums with Control V, if you are using a Windows computer, at least. Also useful is what kind of internet service, and whether there is a router involved. You can get some info on your system by going to http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest , the "Can You Run It?" site. _____________________

....I have the exact same problem! I just upgraded to the new release. At the "loading world" stage it just stops and hangs! In the windows task manager it just says "not responding". I haven't had a single problem over the last 4 years. What's happening???

First, clear your cache.
Second, if you're using an ATI graphics adapter, there is a setting in the Catalyst Control Center for Advanced AI. Turn it off and see if that helps. I'm not sure exactly where it is in the CCC, but I've seen it referred to as a cause of crashing on startup in several JIRA reports. _____________________
