if the laptops been around a while then yes heat buildup due to fuzz in the heat sinks take it to be have the heat sinks blown out and or cleaned.
check the manufacturers web site in how to open the top and remove keyboard to get to the fans and heat sinks.

From: Karl Baryl check the manufacturers web site in how to open the top and remove keyboard to get to the fans and heat sinks. If you have a Dell, Toshiba, or HP, this information won't be given to you unless you're an authorized service center: The smart money's really on IBM/Lenovo for this one.

Either take it to a computer guy (NOT best buy) and have your hardware updated, or better yet, get a new pc with a decent video card. check the system requirements on the SL website. you could try putting your laptop on a cooling fan (I bought one for my ancient laptop and was able to play some graphic games (not SL though), but eventually the heat will kill your laptop. Also make sure you vacuum out the fuzzies and other assorted air inhibitors. how old is your laptop?
