I have a transparent (usually blue) light or beacon(??) that starts at the bottom of most objects, including av, than progresses up the object & dissapates. How do I turn this off ?

You've enabled Show Updates. Press ctrl-alt-shift-u to turn them back off or look in the Client (or Advanced) menu.
