Im builnd a house, and I have to line up a lot of shapes perfectly. SOmetimes when I get into the world, I find that amny shapes had moved by .01 meters,a nd then I have to realign them again. As you probably noticed when 2 shapes overlap (like floor) it causes the texture to go all "jiggy". Anyone have the same problem?

Yes. "The Ground" in the Venice project is made up of a number of 8x8x0.1 panels alligned to the "snap to" grid, and I will often find them misplaced by a small amount in some direction. Floating Point error?
Also, possibly related but not exactly the same: the panels will sometimes _appear_ to be misplaced by a small amount, but if I select the panel, it jumps back in to alignment with the other panels.
(P.S. Yeah! Domo-Kun!)

That happens to me everytime i log into SL daily It drives me insane. Usually just clicking on it, without going into the edit part, will align everything again. It's definitely annoying

Yeah I think everyone has that problem... We could try locking the objects, but I don't think it will matter much. What I also notice when I select an object to edit (to edit the script) I accidently move it a little bit that's pretty annoying too.

my bunker walls/floor/ceiling constantly have this problem. what's interesting is that i have linked it all (double-checked after linking that all alignment was still perfect), and yet some parts still insist on slipping out of alignment. locking does nothing, i think it just has to do with where the server "perceives" the object to be. somehow, editing makes the server double-check the coords, and it snaps it back into place. it does look suspiciously like a FP bug, because when i edit objects that do this, their actual coordinates - as displayed in the edit window - are off by like .002m, and almost instantly reset back to the proper numbers.

This bug is related to lossy data compression (quantization error) and maybe packet loss and maybe a bug in our server-side culling. I've filed a bug on it. Also, Dave Zeeman has put it in his list of top-five most HORRID glitches in SL. Where does this rank, in your opinion, in the list of priorities? In other words, should I rank this bug as priority 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5?

In other words, should I rank this bug as priority 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5? #2 or #3...mostly because SL is so centered around building, and sometimes if everything is misplaced like that, it makes it look messssy. Not that I mind re-aligning everything, but when you have a building with LOTS of primitives, its annoying.

BTW, this small shifting of objects is a bug with the "apparent position" of the objects in your particular SL login session, not their real position on the servers and not necessarily their "apparent position" to someone else looking at them on their SL client.
So if it appears to be out of whack but you _know_ you put it in just the right position earlier then it probably _is_ in the right position, but the position that has been provided to your client needs more significant digits ==> you probably don't really need to reposition everything.
This effect can be caused by packet loss, however there is probably another source of inaccuracy (a real bug) and we think we will be able to eventually provide better detection and correction for lost packets.
