I have a slow PC at work, that I would occasionally like to run SL on. I know there are quite a few homebrew versions of SL out there that might run better on older hardware. Can anyone offer any suggestions or their favorites?
Since it's a work computer, I'm really not able to upgrade it. It does run the latest regular and release candidate clients, but extremely slowly.
Thanks in advance!

Hi! What are the computer specs? I think Cool Viewer by Boy Lane is supposed to be cool for older machines. There was a viewer named Nicholaz but i am unsure of the status of that project. Here is Boy Lanes Cool Viewer: http://my.opera.com/boylane/blog/

I think the most abstemious version of SL is Nicholaz version of 1.18, pre-Windlight. It's still ironically titled "BE" for "Bleeding Edge". http://nicholaz-beresford.blogspot.com/

Also on Boy Lane's site, check out the Rainbow Viewer with the SSE2 patch. It may run faster if your computer has an ATI graphics adapter.

Nicholaz' viewers are still publicly available. I have used BE, but on my laptop I use the Old School version (pre-Windlight and doesn't include voice features), which further reduces the load.

Thanks folks! I think I'll try the OldSchool version. I certainly don't need voice, or Windlight. Thanks again! edit: Works great, thanks again everybody... So glad Nicholaz is keeping up these old versions, they're a lifesaver for older hardware This plus the SLite Chat keeps me going when I can't be home with better hardware!
