I have had little or no trouble logging on to SL and building, flying or doing whatever (well since i got an Invidia video card)
But lately I crash like every 15 mins. I have wiped my temp file, re-installed Sl, defragged my harddrive, removed any "torrent" type programs, replaced my Cat5 wiring and reinstalled my vid drivers..WHAT GIVES. I have spken to Colin and he suggested all of the above, but it still hasnt helped. Someone told me SL switched ISP's Friday...and thats when this seemed to start... Anyone else having problems? Any SOLUTIONS? I get an error message that says "You have been logged out of Secondlife....indicative of an upstream connection...try reinstalling" I am at wits end. I wont pay good $$ to be so aggravated.

I have had but one crash in SL so far, and it was because I randomly clicked on some option in the Debug menu out of fidgetyness. I would like to help you though I probably won't be able to. What are your system specs? Do you have trouble in other games, etc?

You're sure it's not thermal or power-related, Stroker?

I just downloaded the latest version and installed it. I haven't crashed in SL for ages. Tonight, I have crashed twice in 15 minutes.

I haven't changed anything on my PC in quite a while - except for this download.

Something is wrong.

I wonder if it's your weird video card doing (or contributing) to it, Kathy. I don't really know what to suggest you do about that, though.

Is my card weird?

Well, yes or no, I haven't changed anything lately - not even my card.

I'm working on buyinga Mac, but I'm still using my PC - which hasn't changed remarkably for a year.

Yeah, you said your computer didn't have an AGP slot?

Yep. But it never DID have an AGP slot.

I'm just saying something has changed in the software. You can call ita bug - or a design limitation - but it wasn't there the last several versions.

It's not often as simple as that though... just because one release works and one doesn't, it can mean, but doesn't necessarily mean that the change is either the sole or even primary cause of your crash. When this sort of thing happens, it tends to be due to some small change in the code adding to an already unstable system.

What I'm saying is that you have some very unusual hardware. To jump to the conclusion that any one factor -- including a patch -- is the sole factor is to ignore plenty of other factors, among them potential thermal and electrical failure, two of the most common causes of crashes.

I'm not denying that your system appeared to function fine in the last patch, but I'm suggesting that just because you didn't see it crash, it didn't mean it wasn't having similar problems due to other factors.

Nothing that unusual about non-AGP graphics. OK, most cards are AGP now, but that's a relatively new thing.

If the card's a PCI, the chances are that it's older and probably cooler.

Course, it also means it might not support some of the newest features...

Of my 8 PCs, only 2 of them support AGP...

Secondlife seems like it can be rather intensive on processors and graphics cards. The two nastiest problems I have had are as follows:

One of my computers had a bad stick of 64MB RAM, but since I had a bunch of other sticks of that, most applications wouldn't get up that high and actually use that RAM, in fact only Diablo2 in a particular graphics effect sequence would use that piece of RAM, RAM that would read back different bits then were written to it. Eventually I took out one piece at a time, and with the help of a bit of testing software, fixed it.

The second is the computer I'm using now would have really strange crashes which were actually do to overheating making it unstable. It would crash every 15 minutes, I still probably can't use it in the summer. For this, I took paintbrushes and went over everything inside, even the processor fans and heatsinks. It now runs much much better and cooler.

As someone above said, it could be that one's system is already unstable and the patch simply put it over the edge. Unless you live in a clean room, dust your computers insides thoroughly. If its a conflict with SL and your graphics card which is, from above, different?, you might try running SL with lower graphics settings. Maybe there are some OpenGL settings that your graphics card handles incorrectly, but tells SL its okay with, and that could be causing problems. I really know nothing about anything.

Been crashing a lot. Also, new update isn't recognizing until it's all done that it has been installed!
Well, I've fallen for this trick twice as I don't know if it's a new update or not!
Nothing changed on my computers... I use two different computers at times.

Hope the update can soon recognize itself sooner.
Thanks for tech help as I know they get much grief.
