Deletion of Accounts

Yes, I know this may seem evil, but a friend of mine had his account deleted just cause he failed to update his payment info.

I think that is totally F***ED, I mean come on we pay you guys money to play on here to buy thing in the form of $L or Premium Accounts, I say if a person fails to pay the account should be dropped to Basic and the $ he owes be taken out in $L eve if it puts him a the Negative area in game.


Anyone else think that this should be done?

To be perfectly frank, I think that you're full of it. I know a number of people who have gotten behind for one reason or another and the worst that has happened is their logins were suspended until they got caught up. How long did he leave it unpaid?

what Phoenix described is exactly what happened to me when i got new bank cards and forgot to update LL for nearly 3 months (obviously i wasnt around to notice)

They will reinstate the account if your friend pays (and wasnt banned for other reasons). Seriously.

Even if it's true that the account got deleted I know LL is very good about notifying you of pending hits on your account. I always get a two week lead on when my cc will be charged......including the exact amount and the exact date. Then the very day my cc gets charged i get another notice that is was successful. I'm pretty sure if it were not successful I would get one stating that too.

Your "friend" had notice.........it's his responsibility to pay what is due or to contact LL if there is a problem. In fact, your "friend" can contact LL right now and talk about it..........instead of having "his" friend rant in the forums.

And technical issues? Well, I suppose in the loosest sense of the term it might apply. It is, "technically", irresponsibility on his part.

Here's my take

On the one hand if you own land and go to basic I think you lose the land because only premium accounts can own land. So it could be a favor that they don't auto go down to basic account status.

My gut instinct when I saw a balance on my account when I was trying to switch to basic was to get defensive with customer support when I was surprised to see a balance owed. But after reflecting on it I think it's for the best that they do it this way in case you just forgot to update the card info, which is a very easy thing to do if your not careful.

If you really want to go basic like me because whatever reason you can't afford to pay the premuim account fee, just tell them and they will set your account to basic and not charge you.

When I suddenly ran into financial difficulties a few years back, my account was a couple of hundred dollars in arrears for over 2 years. When I was finally in a position to pay LL what I owed them, my account was reinstated, with all of its Inventory intact.

If the account was deleted, then there is more going on that the OP is telling us.
