I've been thinking about installing the stand alone opensim grid on my computer for some time now. I don't have intentions of connecting to any public grid or even inviting anyone to come to mine. I just want to play around with some things I can't (and probably shouldn't even try) do on any grid that is open to public. I can build, make clothing, shapes, skins, and, to a small extint create animations. I want to try scripting, creating RAW files for terrain and terraform without the +_ 4 meter restrictions we have on SL mainland.

I've been the OpenSim site and read all the FAQ's, wiki and the one video tutorial linked there. I figured I would download the Windows installer which I did. I thought there might be some sort of instructions along with the installer.......no luck. But, what is so mysterious about installing something that has a setup program? So I did it.............then it says everything is up and running with the name of my region and a blinking curser waiting for some input from me. I searched everywhere for some information that might give me a clue of what I need to input so the program will finish launching and get me to my log in page.

The video tutorial is a year and a half old and explains how to unzip the source code, compile and run from the consol. Fine...........I uninstalled the stand alone that I used the Windows installer and downloaded the source code and the frame.net required to compile the code. But I got lost since I could not run the video tut while running the processes to compile and install the software. Besides the installation runs quite a bit faster than the 8 minute video

So, here's my question. Does anyone have a link to a text tutorial on how to install and configure your stand alone grid on a Windows machine? Or a link to any information pertaining to the Windows installer? Something I can have up while doing the actual installation?

Here, I thought to myself.............I can do that!! :)
