Nvidia Driver Error Message

Just got a new computer with Windows Vista 64 bit Operating System; I had updated the driver for the Nvidia Ge Force 9800GT, yet i got the message that it was out of date or the latest driver wasn't updated. I also read the message from second life knowledge base, that to re install the driver. So far i have uninstall the driver, reinstalled and update about three times and i still get that message. As this point, the driver for this video card has been updated. So I have no clue what to do now.

Try to delete the settings.xml file in
WinXP: C:\Documents and Settings\<you>\Application Data\SecondLife\
Vista: C:\Users\<you>\Appdata\Roaming\SecondLife\

You can also try a command line switch in your shortcut "--safe" to reset preferences.

In addition to what Boy said, I'd suggest you download and use DriverCleaner. It's likely your new driver did not install quite properly, as simply uninstalling an existing driver via Add/Remove Programs, or even via a dedicated uninstaller that may have come with the driver itself, will often leave remnants behind. These old remnants then cause conflicts with newer driver versions. DriverCleaner works very, very, very well (100% flawlessly, in my experience) to remove all traces of a previous driver, so you can be assured of a completely clean installation of a new one.

I've been using DC for years now. I can't recommend it highly enough. As I usually say, it's easily worth ten or twenty times the mere $10 it costs. Run it every time you change driver versions.
