Hi!

About 6 months ago I installed vista, only to have to roll back as SL was unusable, is it any better todat? I have a dual core, 7600gt gfx card if that has any bearing.

Thanks!

It works, but i wouldnt even advice that os , to cumbersome and nothing to gain on it, and you will kiss your ram goodbye as Vista seems to require twice the amount of ram running anything on it.

30% of Vista's crashes is blamed on nvidias drivers to, yeh sure they used to at start, havnt seen one for awhile in vista, but then again i uninstalled it :D

/point game requirements, that came out or is comming, seem to have 2 ram requirement twice on vista and i dont blame them.

exsample some game ;
xp 1 gig ram
vista 2 gig ram

Vista is getting "replaced" next year or so apperantly, so i guess this Vista is the new Windows ME/se edition, its way to bloatware.

About 4 months ago I got a new computer with Vista. And from day one I have not had had any more problems with running SL on this machine over my old XP machine. Both computers run SL beautifully........though this machine is at least twice as powerful as my old one.

I think the major problem people have had with Vista and SL is that they generally opt for the minimum requirements for running Vista........toss SL in and they have problems. A good graphics card is important and people really don't know what a good graphics card is.....and that sales person will tell you anything to get the sale. Just like so many here have said before...........do your homework before you buy. You want a computer that will work well with SL then you need a computer that will handle it's operating system with plenty to spare in the processing, memory and graphics. XP requires less to run which leaves more for SL. You have to compensate if you want Vista which means you cannot go bare minimum for the OS.

By the way, after getting used to the differences in the UI and where stuff is located in Vista, I like it. You can turn off most any of the "bloatware and bells and whistles" in Vista too. Even all of it if you want. :)

I have a Vista and it runs....well...."sucky" in SL. I'd be really interested in finding out which things in Vista are "bloatware", and where to find them so I can turn the darned things off.

Any info you can give me on this will be greatly appreciated. And now I find out that my Vista is actually just another ME....after spending so much money on it. Just my luck. :-/

Try Control panel:
>>>Performance information and tools
(look on the "tasks" panel on the left side of the page)
>>>Advanced tools
>>>Adjust appearance and performance of Windows

when you get to that section, you can turn off and on the stuff you don't need or want.

I've used it for three weeks now without a problem *knocks on wood*

2 gig RAM, though. Anything less is not gonna work.

I ran SL on an XP machine for about 3 months then switched to a new Vista Home Premium system about 2 months ago. I haven't had any more problems with SL on Vista than I did on XP. I'm running the Aero theme with all the visuals enabled on a 8600GT card. I installed SP1 right after it came out and SL runs the same with it. The new machine has a faster dual core processor and 4 Gig of memory vs a single core and 2 Gig on the old machine. Make sure you have at least 2 Gig of memory when running Vista.

Actually, Vista is going to be replaced in 2010 by Windows 7.
