why the hell doesn't second life incorperate dial-up... how many potential second-lifers are there who use mobile broadband only to find that second life can't load merely because it's not compatible with dial-up internet?

Dial up is not fast enough. You need at least about 700 kps download to stay connected to the servers. No dial up is that fast.........a lot of DSL are marginally fast enough.
