Forgive my ignorance, but how do prolonged outages such as this effect rent and tier fees? Are we still expected to pay our full share and just get less? If so, on the surface it seems very lucrative for them to have such outages.

True, but as someone else highlighted in another thread, the direct tier costs for the amount of system outage time would amount to less than £1 in most cases, or whatever the equivelent USD amount is. While its still a loss, it really is very minimal, and while it might be 'lucrative' for LL to simply shut the servers down for "faked system outages" as was implied by your post, if they did this for long enough to actually see a profit, they'd almost certainly be looking at huge losses in terms of people leaving SL. As annoyed as I am, I still think that LL are working as hard as they can to resolve the problem, I dont see any evidence to suggest otherwise at the moment, however if the outages continue then I may well change this point of view ![]() Chin up guys and girls, its not fun and its not really acceptable but we cant let this degenerate into groundless accusations I think. |

I can totally appreciate the complaints, but seriously people:

Actually we should be paying much less than 200 us$ for a sim. Because, besides the outages and maiteinance breaks, obviously SL is a Beta project so paying 200 / 300 us$ for a sim is not reasonable when the product is not yet stable.
And they pay the same to IBM and to simple ppl like us, I think they should reconsider that: mayor taxes for big corporation, less taxes for people, just like RL. |

Even one cent out w/o service is a rip-off.

ZOMG I want my 2.5L$ back! = P It adds up. Try stealing those same pennies from a bank and see if you don't land in jail. A rip-off is a rip-off, regardless of the amount. I even recall some guy named Wrigley becoming a millionaire, and having a ball park named after him, by selling only five-cent packs of chewing gum. ![]() Simply put, it adds up to money in the bank for the person--or in this case, Limping Lab (LL)--which gets to keep that [seemingly worthless] chump change instead of returning it to its rightful owners. |
