I am desperate. SL was running fine on my PC last Thursday 27 March 2008. Then my version of windows was acting wierd so I did a complete reinstall (something I have done on at least 3 occasions in the past with no problems). This time, however once I have reinstalled all the latest drivers, basically getting my PC back to how it was before the reinstall, SL began having problems. It runs but all I can see on the login screen are 3 white boxes. When I type into these boxes I cannot see the type but I can log in. When I log in all I see are shadows - very dark shadows.
I have spent the last 2 days trying to discover the problem I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, double & tripled checked that they are the most up to date, which they are, but still I can't see anything either at login or when I sign in.
Can anyone give me any ideas how to fix this? I am managing to log on using a back up computer but it has a less powerful processor and crashes every 5 minutes and as for walking or tping anywhere forget it.
Please I am desperate. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some questions:
-- which client are you using? Did you change the version of this as well when you re-installed? Did you move from a non-Windlight client to a Windlight one?
-- What graphics card do you have?
I really have no ideas on this, though. It sounds as if some 3D rendering setting for your graphics card got reset to a value that really doesn't work for SL ... hopefully with the info I asked for above, someone else who has seen this will be able to give you a real answer. .

The Platform is XP as before - no change
The crahics card is Nvidia Geforce4 MX Integrated GPU as for whether it is windlight or not it was just the one there for windows, which was the same version I had running on Thursday. Does that help?

You could try doing some forum searches on Nvidia as I know I have seen many threads here for various Nvidia cards.
As for me, at one point I downloaded the "latest" Nvidia driver and found out it was still considered "beta" so it was buggy as heck and my games would not run. In the end I selected an older driver and all was fine. Might be worth a try.
Also make sure you UNINSTALL the Nvidia driver using "add/remove programs", don't install one driver over another as Nvidia is touchy about this.

Do not run latest vid card drivers on that old card, SL wont like it, this is one i recommend for mx' cards November 2, 2006 http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_93.71_2.htmlThink its that one anyway, latest drivers is no point on that card since it doesnt add anything to it since it cant support it anyway.

By default, XP comes with .NET Framework version 1.1, download and install .NET Framework version 2 and 3. Then run updates for windows, as it will install a lot of security updates. OpenGL platforms run in .NET Framework.
