Multiple Skins have missing parts

I have several Avatars, and they each have their own skins. I checked the other day, and some of them have corrupt skins - or skins that are missing parts of the body, i.e. - one has the legs/feet, and head ok - but is missing the torso arms and hands. The middle of my avatar is solid black with no details. I have tried switching everything on this avatar including body, eyes, hair, clothes, etc to no effect.

I have other avatars - where the head is solid white, including the facial hair, the middle is another tone, and the bottom a 3rd tone.

What happened?!

(I haven't worn these avatars in about 1 month, and I have managed work arounds for 3 of the 4 skins - but the 4th is irreplaceable - as it was a custom/high-end/job and the creator is no longer around.) Its pretty unusual -otherwise - I would just bite the SL bullet and go get another one.

I believe your skins are OK, it's the client that is broken. Try different clients, or downgrade your card's drivers (if NVidia and Vista) to an older version. This is a known problem--check the JIRA--recently created by SL's latest viewer clients. Do not dump your skins or even bother replacing them until you've tried older clients and older card drivers. Oh, and of course, clear your cache.

This is an issue that will be solved by SL once version 1.22 of viewer is made available. IT is now out as a release candidate which you can download now at SecondLife.com. If you want to wait for "real" version, you can do this for the time being. Once you login , do the three key combo of control-alt-D. This will put an Advanced tab at the top tool bar next to Help tab. Then select Advanced, then "Rendering",then features, then UNCHECK "palletized textures". That will do it.You may have to then do 3 key combo of control-alt-R for a rebake. Your clothes and skin will then be OK and normal again. Note that you will have to reset this each time you log in. But it does work, and the next viewer will permanately fix this issue. If you have any questions, send me an IM inworld and I will reply when I can.
