Hey all. Ok so about two days ago my SL was working perfectly. Not one issue. Then all of the sudden I log on one day and start crashing again and again. I hadn't done anything different, just checked my mail before logging in. Ok so I ran a virus scan, no virus except for some stupid adware. Then I thought it might be my internet cutting out, but nope, not that either. So after trying everything I could possibly think of, I just said forget this and formatted my entire computer. Wiped it all clean. Came back to SL, crashes every ten seconds or so, sometimes longer depending on how long I wait to log back in. Most of the time it just crashes but a few times it's said BAD_MEM_POINTER. It hasn't done that again since I formatted but I thought that it might have something to do with my ram. So I did a mem test with a boot CD, ran all the tests, and it came up with zero errors. So THEN I thought my computer might be a lil too hot. I'm in an apartment and it gets steaming. Went to the sensor, a few degrees above normal but nothing major. The game doesn't lag or do anything out of the ordinary before it's about to crash. I have a Nvidia fx 5200 video card which is working perfectly as it was before the problems began... At this point I have no leads... I'm actually posting to ask if anyone or if someone knows someone who is having the same problem? I haven't seen anything similar browsing... But if anyone knows something I can try it's much appreciated. Thx =)

what nvidia drivers did you use after reinstalling?
the default microsoft ones really suck
the ones on "the cd that came with the card" are really old
the latest drivers seem to be causing trouble with some cards (altho works like a freakin champ with my 6600GT)
also since you did get a "random might be related to memory" error, and you seem savy with the workings of a computer, yank out your ram, see if the gold fingers look especially dirty (clean them with a pencil eraser and or rubbing alcohol) and re seat them, altho i seriously doubt thats your problem, if it were windows would be most likely freaking out alot more
also # 2, have you installed service pack 3 (or the 183721234 updates sp3 has) and then updated your computer on microsofts website?
also # 3 have you ran a open GL program other than SL (such as a benchmark like lightsmark) to see if the issue is happening to other programs?

I have no idea why I didn't try cleaning the ram before... The inside of my comp is usually pretty darn clean. I'm going to try that, see if it helps. I downloaded updated drivers for the video card. It seems to be working just fine. But then again SL hates video cards for some reason. I haven't update my computer yet, I just formatted it trying to fix the problem. lol New thing though is that when I thought last night it was my ram, I simply closed SL and opened 200 pages of Firefox. lol It was using almost twice the memory SL does and nothing crashed... it even worked as smoothly as can be expected. lol Nope... I don't have any other open GL programs... Guess I should get one and test it out though. Thank you for that advice... I think I might have to.. lol I'll try it. =)
