My computer loses its internet connection and of course I crash. I reset the router and all is good for awhile. My question is . is it the router causing the problems or the internet connection? I don't have to reset my modem for it to start working again, just the router.

I've seen something like this happen before but it was the modem.

When you say "crash" do you mean "lost connection?" If it's the latter, do you get an error message? Like something about "mangled network data?"

it just kicks me out of sl no error just the option to look at chat or quit. So I guess I mean lost connection so I get booted out.

If it's a timeout you get a message something like "this region may be experiencing trouble," and I would lean toward a connectivity issue
Another thing, "mangled network data," happens on invalid packets... I recently diagnosed a friend's experience with that message and he was actually getting voice RTP packets arriving at the wrong port somehow... that one makes me lean toward a router issue

It probably is your router (and the modem will also cause that problem). Having to reset your router or modem often is not normal..........I'd say maybe once every couple weeks is not too much out of the norm (but probably more than most people experience). I had a similar problem with my Linksys 430N router. The major cause for the constant loss of connection was that the router has a design flaw.........not enough ventalation holes in the bottom and the 'feet' are extremely short (only about 1/4" to raise the router off the surface it sits on). I solved that part of the problem by placing it on a small wire book holder. But I contined to experience loosing connections.........instead of daily or more often it was reduced to about every other day. I called Linksys support to yell at them for selling such a piece of junk. I was transfered to tech support and he walked me through configuring the router to not do whatever it was that it was doing...he seemed to know exactly what the problem was. Since that time (almost a year ago), I've had to reset my router/modem maybe twice.
So if any of what I've said applies try following my footsteps.
