I created a secondary shortcut recently by adding the command " -multiple" to the end of the target area on the Shortcut tab in the Properties dialog box.
What I'd like to know is, how do I create a third shortcut? What command would I have to use at the end of the target line?

I think that once you use the -multiple flag, you use the same shortcut to open multiple viewers. Did you try?

Once you put the -multiple in the target you can open as many instancers of SL as your computer can handle. A reasonabe computer with at least 50% above minimums specs should be able to handle three clients.........but you're going to take a hit on performance.

What do you mean "50% above minimum specs"? What are minimum specs?

From: Pyrite Sopwith What do you mean "50% above minimum specs"? What are minimum specs? http://secondlife.com/support/sysreqs.phpIgnore Minimum requirements and look at recommended requirements. The "Minimum" on that page is actualy quite unable to run SL.

For the most part, I do meet the requirements. However, I got the GeForce 8500 GT graphics card installed yesterday morning. On the link you provided, it states I require GeForce Go Series 7600, 7800, or 7900.
Is NVIDIA the same as GeForce? Does the NVIDIA graphics card category cover primarily GeForce brand? Does it fall under the "8000 series"? And is the GeForce 8500 a newer version graphics card?

GeForce is an nVidia card. The 8500 is a model within the 8000 series of nVidia cards. I'm not sure just how nVidia determines it series numbers beyond the first digit........the higher that number the "greater" the performance. The greater is in quotes because that really depends exactly what kind of performance........such as OpenGL support, DirectX support, etc. And card in the 8000 series should work with SL. But you will need the proper driver (which sometimes can be a little difficult to find). For the most part the latest driver is the one to use....but not always (the latest 8600GT driver for my card in my machine does not work....so I use the 169.25 driver).
That 8500GT should work fine.

It probably does.
So in order for me to create a third shortcut icon, what command would I have to add to the target line (if any at all)?

I created a third shortcut, but when that third user in my RL residence logs on, it's basically on the same account as my original username Pyrite Sopwith. The only difference is, Pyrite Sopwith is labelled "Away" (in parentheses) and the third user is logged on. The second user is fine, though.
You see, I share an apartment with 3 other individuals - a "sister" and my "boyfriend" (the other resident is a roommate who doesn't even find SL appealing). My sister registered this past Tuesday and my boyfriend registered yesterday. I would like to find out how to create a third shortcut without having two accounts on the same icon collide, pushing one "away" and only two users are active at the time instead of three.
I did check out the link provided in the last post, but I cannot find a concise way to add a third shortcut in my folder.

From: Pyrite Sopwith I did check out the link provided in the last post, but I cannot find a concise way to add a third shortcut in my folder. I don't know how you created your multiple shortcut for the way I did it was to copy the original shortcut and renamed to "SL multiple". The when I want to log both myself and my alt I use that shortcut.......when I only want to log one or the other avatars on I use the original shortcut. Also with multiples on at the same time only one can be active at a time......you cannot chat to your other account unless you have that window active. If you toss the window that is not active to the task bar that avatar will show as "away". I don't know how you will keep up with all windows but I just resize the windows to fit on my monitor side by side......then neither are shown as "away". I do sometimes get confused about who is active......and that's with only two clients running. LOL Good luck.

I guess there is no way to do it unfortunately. I tried everything, but to no avail. I even viewed the SL forum, nothing at all. But at least it was worth a try.

are you not trying to run 2 or 3 on the same computer? am I reading that you want them to be able to click the shortcut and log in as there name? thats just filling out the name and password each time a different user logs in, if you want it to save the name ... I think it will only show the last logged in user, and will have to be re entered new each time (at least thats how it works here when I log in with an alt or someone else gets to use my computer to log in with... and FYI if your sharing like this dont check remember password!!!!! even if its your best trusted lover!
edit: yes it seems you are sharing the account? maybe a language barrier? if you want all to run at the same time on the same computer? thats going to be hard, whos going to type and interact? just play musical chairs each time one says hi?
I would think you could rename the shortcuts to SL "name1" sl"name2" sl"name3"
but now I'm at a loss can you explain further? do you want all 3 separate accounts to run on the same computer and monitor?

Good point. But if two users were to log on the same computer, I would log on first with the other individual away from the PC as I key in the password. Then my sister, or boyfriend, or whoever wishes to log on, would have her turn to log on using his/her shortcut. To make things simple, I named my SL shortcut (the original one) "Pyrite Sopwith" and the other shortcut the other user's username. But for the other user's shortcut, I had to add the tagline "-multiple" and away I go. I would just simply minimize the screen as the other person has a turn to interact, and the other person would minimize his/her screen when it's my turn to interact. And that's a good point with the security issue. I ensure that no one finds out my password and I ask them to keep 5 or 10 feet away from the PC when I'm keying in my password. And as a precautionary measure, I don't see why there is a need to have 3 shortcuts on my desktop at all. Therefore, I have made my decision on the third shortcut icon, and I am declaring I am not even going to attempt it. Dead issue, case closed. Speaking of which, I think this thread should be closed also.

Close the thread if you want.........but you only need two shortcuts. One for using SL with only one avatar logged in at a time. And One for multiples. The users wanting to log in when others are logged in would have to use multiple shortcut. Of course that means the first person longged in would have to to log in using the multiple too. If that made sense. Good luck, again..............

i think what they meant was a list of names to appear on a drop down menu when each client is open, and possible saving the passwords. i think someone did that in the past, and one of the lindens replied saying they didn't know they could do that. i forgot how they said they did it. and who knows if the newer clients will allow it
