After playing Kerstin's "chicken and egg" hunt last night, I just want to ask if there was a single person who went to Av Central last night who did not experience severe lag once they got inside. Imo, there is little point in having that store if it's nearly unusable due to lag.
What I don't understand how a bunch of static objects together in an enclosed space can cause so much lag even after all the data is fed to the client...I run a very fast machine with a 128 mb vid card and it still nearly locked up on me...and it certainly frustrated me to no end last night! The Casino is the same way...when was the last time any of you went there and had a good time?
Guess I just want to say that I sincerely hope this problem is licked before go-live time, as paying customers simply will not put up with this kind of sub-par performance, esp. if they have a high-end machine. I wonder if Linden Labs could try combining four servers to run a single sim (or some other method of combining server resources), such as *Natoma* as a test to see if we could have one perfectly lag-free sim...that would be a huge assurance to me and everyone else that Second Life be the tremendous success we all want it to be at go-live time...

Yeah after the game I was wondering myself just why it's so laggy. I had gone there earlier in the evening to make sure the chicken avatar was still there. It was laggy then, but prolly a lot worse when you all got there at about the same time. There were 2 people outside when I was done, so it wasn't too many avatars on the sim.
So why does it lag so bad? Is it maybe scripts running on many objects there? If so, is that also contributing to Lindenberg's lag and could we save -- or at least improve -- Lindenberg by getting rid of some scripts?
And thanks to everyone who were guinea pigs for the chicken and egg game. I know that lag was frustrating. What amazed me was how much people liked the game despite the lag. I will have similar games going forward, but I'll only places that are relatively lag free.

another "me too".
I've been mostly hanging out at the edges of the world, and performance is pretty good there, but I went looking for something at Av Central last night and it was _terrible_.
On the other hand, during the visit, I realized that I hadn't had a client crash since installing 0.4.3, so horray for that.
