I have a compaq pressario 6000 with a built-in nvidia graphic card (32 megs), 256 megs of Ram, Athlon XP 1.7 processor

When I was logging in SL, there was so much lags it was impossible to enjoy SL.

Yesterday I have bought an ATI radeon 9200 se with 128 mb. I just installed it, made the installation with the cd furnished, connected to SL, SL told me to get a new driver (catalyst 4.9 was it's name). I got it..

I Relog in SL and, wow after 2, 3 minutes of downloding graphics from wher i was, alla was beautiful and the game was fluid, I was moving easy and I dance for the firt time last night with ice people and very good music (it was a swimsuit contest in a club).

I am not sure, but I think I saw sometimes in internet some complaints of incompatibility with this card for games and other stuff, but for me last night it did the job I wanted too, I was able to log on and yes, now I will be able to become a Resident and join the community

Is there problems for me in the future with this card in SL? I wasnèt sure if spending 100$ for a graphic card just or SL was a good spending, but I am already and addict after one night, I will not hesiate to replace it if I have problems in the future :-)

Hope to see you all around in SL :-)

Best of luck with ATI. I've had both, and after compressing the fractured remnants of my ATI card beneath my Aeron chair wheels (for stress relief), my SL experience has been much better with my new Nvidia card.

If things are fixed to the degree where ATI doesn't crash and freak out anymore, then great, but I was nearly driven mad by ATI cards, roughly 1.2 - 1.3-ish of the SL client.

Well no WONDER your graphics sucked before you got a new card. Your "built in" card only had 32MB of RAM! That's pathetic, these days.

As far as future problems... Who knows. ATI's never been very reliable, and after every patch you hear another player complaining about how their client now crashes. You really should return the card and get a decent GeForce.

Iam taking a 100$ risk.

I beleive in all your experiences and the suggestions about switching to Nvidia Geforce.

I will do it when I will have the major ATI problems everyone is talking about. Until then I will take a chance with it.

Now let's see when I will have problems. I will make sure to always have the newest drivers and best configuration possibles. But if it doesn't work anymore, then I will switch.

Hope I will make at least 6 months with it...

TY all for your input

I hope you do too, really. Just wanted to warn you in case you decided to pop for a more expensive version, there are risks if you run ATI and SL. Everything else seems to be fine on it, though.

Enjoy :)
