Despite the claims on the SL page that the client will not work with W98SE, it works absolutely fine here and in a direct comparision with XP, there is absolutley no difference whatsoever (graphics, menues, performance, etc.) - in fact, task switching and such things perform even better. There are, though, probably some preconditions that need to be matched (eg. directx8+ installed, MSIE 6+ installed, etc.) - but with a fairly *actual* W98SE system, there should be no problems at all with SL.

It works fine with Win98SE and IE 5.

I only had trouble with SL on my win98se machine because the rest of the machine (graphics card, etc.) couldn't handle it.

98SE has the same device model as XP, 2k, & ME. 98SE was when they rolled it out. As long as your software isn't specificly designed for XP it should run fine on all 4 windows versions hardware being the limitation. MS doesn't like breaking compatability when they don't have to so the nasty changes they roll out all at once.

The reason the Lindens don't say, "oh yeah, it works fine on 98, too" is because they don't have the resources to support it. Particularly not when you consider that, --generally speaking-- most people running Win98 are not likely to be running very new hardware.
So it'll PROBABLY work, but not necessarily.
