When I log into SL my cpu shoots up to 90's and 100's EVEN when I have nothing else going.
I bought another fan (because my fan is on the bottom of my laptop) and it helped for a while, but for the past 2 days my CPU has been so high that I can't do ANYTHING (and I mean ANYTHING) in SL.
Is something going on with sl that's making my cpu high, or is it my computer? what can I do to fix this?
I don't really know if my computer meets the requirements, but I played for a long time with no problems so...
I got this computer in 07

Are talking about CPU usage running in the 90 to 100% range? Or are you talking about your CPU temps running in the 90 to 100 degree celsius range? If it's usage and percentage that is not abnormal for a lot of computers and generally does not hamper you SL running. But, if it's temps you have a problem you need to fix. Laptops, due to their size tend to have heat problems but even a laptop running that hot on the CPU is pretty much a severe problem. I gather you got a cool pad to put under the computer which is good but if it did not lower your temps to something closer to the 80 degree range you still have something you need to fix.
The most common cause of hot running computers (both laptops and desktops) is dust inside the case trapping heat against the components. Laptops are fairly difficult to clean thoroughly due to the difficulty of removing parts of the case to get to the dust. But you can help somewhat by getting a can of compressed air and blowing through the vent holes, power supply exhaust fan, and anywhere can blow to dislodge dust that is inside the case. You can (and probably should at least once or twice a year) take the computer to a repair shop and have it properly cleaned. You can also do that yourself........if you're brave, have the proper tools and extremely careful.

SL is an intense environment, requires lots of CPU, Memory, hard drive churning...etc. its normal on my work computer to run in the 90% cpu usage...older technology, crappy graphics card, not a lot of memory. my computer at home....not the latest greatest, but good processing speed (intel quad core q9550), graphics card (nvidia 9800gt, 512k memory), and 4 gigs of memory, running on the RC version of Windows 7 and I use about 15 to 20 percent of cpu resources. so it really is in the hardware....just make sure with your cpu cranking like it is, that you don't overheat .
