I have a live365.com account. http://live365.com/stations/dayfree (takes you to the info page, not the broadcast) I run my music on a mac, and secondlife runs on a pc next to it. Both are connected to DSL of course. I run Studio365 Live in live mode for the broadcast. It comes up on my itunes successfully, and I can even "get info" on it and grab the URL. I know that I can put a URL into the parcel's radio section. Unfortunately, I dont get my music to come through. Live365 either broadcasts an error message saying that the session is invalid, or whatever. they want you to log-in. I'm looking for someone who has successfully figured out how to put in a usable URL for broadcasting live365.com through their parcel, perhaps by dodging their log-in. If you have, can I get you to post an example URL from your parcel here? I am aware that there may be a way to broadcast THROUGH new features in secondlife, but I run it on a different machine than I keep my music. As well, I have no idea of how to set up a server for soemthing like shoutcast... so before I go to either of those, I'm looking for a live365 fix/cheat in game. I have read all the other topics involving this and I need more info. Some links to topics with solutions from other topics are no longer available. thanks!

Hi Dana Unfortunately there's no way to play a live365 stream in SL in a reliable way because it requires a login for each listener. Each person who comes on to your parcel counts as a seperate listener. If you open your live365 stream in winamp you can right click on it in the playlist and choose "view file info." That will give you the URL of the stream including your login info. If you're alone on your land that will work. As soon as someone else shows up live365 sees it as two people logged in to the stream under the same login and it invalidates the stream. What I do is use Shoutcast to relay the stream into SL. It's about the only way you can get it to work. That way you're the only one logged into your live365 stream. Any listeners in SL are logged in to your shoutcast server.

I finally got it actually play. I entered in the URL again while I was alone. Going to see what happens if two people show up... sounds like it'll go away. if it does, I'm probably cancelling ym live365 account... I signed up just for this Live and learn. Looks like I'll have to start researching alternatives. : igh::

I have no idea. two of us were listening to it at the same time, but since then we've been getting logged out constantly. But, even when it does work, live365 plays one of the worst, most annoying ads for the first minute.... enough to drive away anyone flying by. soemtimes I stop if I hear cool music, this would kill that and make people run screaming.
okay, where can I find out info about alternatives in words that someone with no knowledge of what a broadcasting server is exactly is?

Dana ... what I suggest is to go to www.shoutcast.com and read up on the info files there on how to be both a DJ and a Server. They will even provide the files you need for free with a simple to follow setup document. I don't recommend Live365 just as Chip mentioned, because it's not very 1) user friendly and certainly not 2) newbie friendly. As a net station owner for 2 years, I have always recommended everyone to use the Winamp System, and my host (info on our website or you can contact me in game) is beyond a doubt, the most reliable out there and has been carrying my 2 servers for SimKast for the past year plus. Save yourself some trouble and get off L365 and onto a more user friendly service If you need any help setting up then please contact me in game and you can pop over and I'll sit down with you and go over what has to be done I really don't mind

shoutcast.com: "there is no current solution for broadcasting from Unix or Macintosh"
Which is why I never worked with them... I use my PC for gaming, not media. It would be awkward to use the PC to broadcast, since it is my game machine.

I have the exact same problem/dilemma, Dana. Only I just have the one Mac for both my gaming AND my live365-ing! If you ever find a solution, please let me know, and I will let you know if I ever find one.
In the meantime, why not switch? Use the Mac for Second Life, and the PC for broadcasting?

From: Dana Pinkerton shoutcast.com: "there is no current solution for broadcasting from Unix or Macintosh"
Which is why I never worked with them... This is totally untrue ! I broadcast live into SL using my powerbook while running SL. No problem. I also do a more complex gig running Traktor on an iMac while powerbook is running SL. There are SEVERAL shoutcast solutions for the Mac. I prefer NiceCast http://www.rogueamoeba.com/nicecast/ it's an amzingly simple and neat solution for basic broadcasting and by far the easiest to set up. Also there are several folks in SL who provide streaming relay services payable in Linden dollars. ATM I use the service provided by JSecure Hanks.

just in case anyone's interested... Nicecast claims to be able to use any soundcard or sound output device and it can but ... My setup has 24 digital outputs, Nicecast can only see the first two. So if you have problems connecting external audio i/o use the inputs numbered 0 and 1. If you are only using iTunes, there is no problem it couldnt be simpler. If you are using the standard system audio out, again no problem it couldnt be simpler. IM me in world if you want help

Ive been using Live365 in world for like 6 months. I works but has drawbacks. To get the URL go to your station and download the stream. Open the stream in Itunes or WinAmp to get the hella long URL and paste to land options. Drawbacks...everyone will hear a long, spammy, cheesy commercial when they first get the stream or hit stop/play. Also The URL expires at random itervals usually like 2-3 days. So you will keep having to get it and repaste it to the land options. The broadcasting software leaves something to be desired as well.

www.24server.comThat is the new server Phantasie isle just went to, it's really awesome and very very inexpensive. Dump Live 365 as it has proven to litterally suck in SL. Blah lol Hugz Fel

why dont I play secondlife on the mac? it says it requires 1GHz on a mac, mine are 900MHz ibook and 700Mhz eMac. Also, I need to keep the mac free to do my work that I get paid for during the day.
A shoutcast server that accepts linden dollars is nice, but I dont have any in game money left... all I have it what secondlife gives me, no income sources yet.
is nicecast made by shoutcast? If not, shoutcast may have just been referring to their own products not supporting mac.
I emailed the fellow that hosts my websites to see if he can host a stream... I dont know if it is a similar task.
Problem: there may only be so much bandwisth that my dsl modem can handle... broadcasting to the server may knock me off second life. Not sure what's going on with that.

Has anyone found a way to use a Dreamhost server to stream into SL? I would think it's possible with the right software running on your account...

Thanks for the tip, Feliciaa. I'm about ready to dump my Live365 station myself. Too much hassle and it'll never broadcast over my land easily. Hell, I don't even have any copywritten music to worry about royalties over anyway.

From: Goodwrench Grayson Hell, I don't even have any copywritten music to worry about royalties over anyway. You only have to stress over royalties if you are using the music/artists to generate direct income from their sources. If you aren't trying to make personal money from their hard work by streaming their music, then you won't have anything to stress over.

I run Live365 on my island - it works great. I just pulled the full URL from Winamp, popped it in the parcel music field and off it went. I've been live broadcasting with as many as 30 AVs in attendance, and broadcast live, without a single glitch, for the full 36 hours of my Woodstock SL event.
It can be done....

I got mine to work, but I had to reset the URL a lot at first. everyhtign changed after live365 noted that I'd had 25 hours of listenign time, havent had to reset the session since.
So, it CAN be done with live365.

Live365.com Works Sometimes
04-07-2005 13:29
I have a Live365.com account and was able to make the media player link work in my Land Radio. It's very flakey.
I'm looking for an alternative that allows me to upload music to a server, setup the stream, and then disconnect my laptop and keep the stream running. So far, Live365.com is the only service I've found that does that.
Anybody know of alternatives?
