I have an ATI Radeon HD3850 video vard and having very poor performance on SL. This card is meant to be good, and I did not have any problems previously.... So well, I googled about my problem a bit, and found that it may be because of some openGL problem.
Anyonecan say anything about this problem (that I do not understand exactly) ?
Needing extreme help here.

Try to reduce the texture memory to 32MB under Graphics Options / Hardware and increase it step-by-step.... This helped with my X1250 IGP

Disable Vertex Buffer Objects. (Edit -> Preferences -> Graphics tab -> Hardware Options button) ATI cards do not handle VBO's properly. ATI stubbornly refuses to follow established OpenGL standards.

thats because they work their butts off making up new features for directX, so they can boast about their 2 fps bonus over nvida

ATI stubbornly refuses to follow established OpenGL standards. I dunno... with a Radeon X1600 and X1900, VBO dramatically increases my performance....

If you have SL v1.21, try downgrading to v1.20.17 ( http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Old_versions). I had severe issues with v1.21. Frame rate dropped from 15fps to 0.2 after some minutes of usage.... Regarding VBO, for me it gives a slight speed up with ATI Catalyst 9.1 drivers .

So well, I googled about my problem a bit, and found that it may be because of some openGL problem. If you're on Vista, turn off Aero and go with a classic theme. Disable VBO (the windows drivers crash SL on login with VBO on), and turn down features you won't miss. The Linux drivers are a bit more reliable for ATI, VBO won't crash you on that platform, but whether it helps or hurts seems to be a factor of which particular GPU you have. When all else fails, turn down and disable everything, then make changes one at a time until you find a balance between eyecandy and performance. If you go this route, plan some time around it as it will be fairly time consuming and tedious. Good luck.

My pc is over enough for SL (I guess) [I'm doing 3d animations and motiongraphics with hard renders professionaly] I did not have any problems with any games or 3d applications so far
The problem is, I triedd all you said but they're not increasing the performance... Still, frame by frame (5-10 fps) and in some places like INSILICA I can not even move my mouse.

What's the rest of your PC? The video card may not be the problem.

Sorry for the slightly off topic question, but are other ATI HD graphics now working? I have ATI HD2400 on Vista and no longer even have SL on my computer as it wasn't working on here for months. Has this changed now?

From: Minn Ying you can. All you have to do is, to swithc the /3GB mode. google it. You missed it. 4096 bytes is less memory than my calculator wristwatch had when I was a kid. I can't think of any operating system that still exists that can boot in 4kB, much less do so and be usable.
