sim viewer question

hi....

I am getting this message a yellow box saying this area is running a different sim viewer than i am. I have downloaded the latest viewer and do not know what this means. It had only been happening at different locations away from my home. Now last nite it showed up there also.

Is this something happening with sl or is it something i need to fix?

I think you're talking about a message that says server versions have changed; it's no issue on your end or with your viewer. Each region runs on a server and as Linden periodically upgrades server versions, you'll get a message when moving between regions that aren't running the same version number. Eventually when Linden finishes upgrading all the regions, you won't get the message.

ty for your reply !! helps explain things now... so this would not be causing the slow rezz or crashing then, is not related then?

It's a good idea to pay attention to the Linden Blog, and the SL Status Page, so you know when server upgrades (among other things) are happening. The rolling restart for today and tomorrow was announced over a week ago. http://status.secondlifegrid.net/2008/12/29/post386/

As for whether the new server code is responsible for slower rez times, or for your viewer crashing, the answer is a definite maybe. If the new server code is flawed and unfit for release, it certainly wouldn't be the first time LL's made that mistake. Did these problems you mention start just today, or were they going on before? If they coincided with the new sim code deployment, then it's a somewhat safe bet that the new server behavior is the cause. If they were going on before, then you know it's completely unrelated.
