using WinXP SP4. 2Gb Ram and a PCI 16x 512Mb soundcard using Medium graphics option.My problem is NO SOUND! -Except- once during the introductory island I was able to hear a SL promo-ad at the character image customization portion.
I've tried the following:
Cleared the SL cache
Reloaded the Creative Labs SB driver
Checked for WinXP updates
Toggled mute (both in SL and via keyboard)
Verified all subsections in Control Panel Sound were un-muted (ie. MIDI, etc.)
Cranked volume all the way up to 11.
Adjusted the volume level all the way up and down in SL and in WinXP.
On a whim I tried to play a song using Windows Media Player then loaded SL. After SL loaded to the "Connect" screen. WMP continued to "play" but there was no sound (I had SL in a window).
HERE'S THE TRICK: DISABLE CMSS 3D and any ENVIORNMENTAL EQ EFFECTS in the EAX Console of the Creative Labs SoundBlaster. Fixes it 100%.
