I just got a new pc with following specs:

Intel DP35DP
Intel Core2 Duo CPU E6750 @ 2.66GHz
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS (640 MB) latest original driver installed
Microsoft Windows XP Professional

I can log into SL but once I'm in, the camera point of view is located above my head, looking down. When I click my avatar it goes to the correct location and I can move around for some time but then it returns to its previous position.

Hollowed objects don't show the correct hollow shape. When I build a cube and hollow it (with the default setting) I get a cube which has a hollow triangle inside and it also tapers a bit.

My avatar shows strange shapes around the knee and chest area.

Other avatars suddenly seem to be standing with their arms wide open.

I often get kicked out of SL for no apparant reason

This all seems very strange to me and I think it might have something to do with some setting in the NVIDIA control panel.

Any help and suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,

i doubt its a setting in the nvidia control panel.
it sounds like server side/client side issues.
how are the frame rates @ 512 draw distance and what resolution are you operating at ?

The resolution is 1680 x 1050. I've tried other resolutions but the result is still the same. How do I see the framerate?

Best way to see framerate is to get fraps ( http://www.fraps.com/download.php )
or within SL/WL. press CTRL SHIFT 1 .

Cuffman: I'm having the EXACT same issues as you, down the whole list. top-down camera, avatars with arms open, triangles everywhere, constant crashes for no reason. I haven't really noticed odd things around the avatars knees though.

One additional odd thing, when the camera shifts to the top of my avatar's head, looking down, it also automatically turns my avatar to face due East. why?

but i'm not running an Nvidia GeForce at all, I have an ATI Radeon 1950 pro. I've done all of the things I'm supposed to do, updating drivers, updated DirectX, updated BIOS and made sure it was on the right setting. I'm tearing my hair out over here.

Please, anyone, help?

Use ctrl-shift-1 to look at your packet loss before this happens, when it happens, and after it happens. The default pose (arms akimbo pose) on so many avies sounds like you are losing the information about their avatar poses, perhaps due to poor communication (packet loss) between you and Second Life servers.

1. Take a screenshot post it, triangles everywhere could be debug setting thats on depending what you see.

2. I use a evga8800gts 640mbit with these drivers
163.75 & 169.28 , neither does this ,running at 1920x1200 ,
64bit xp
64bit vista (forgot wich driver is on this -.- never use it)

Im not sure what you mean about the cam above head , theres a setting for cam bouncyness in preference/input&camera (never touched it but always turned off Automatic camera movement)

See if camera springyness does anything for you.

Tick on off opengl vertex to see if it does anything , graphics/hardware option (in rc1)

OK I took these this evening. I tried turning off the opengl vertex, but seemed to have no difference on the constant crashes or the triangle effect. I do admit I haven't seen the arms-out pose in a couple of days so maybe I'm making some kind of progress with all of this.

This first shot illustrates that top-down camera and you can see the East facing on my minimap. I actually rezzed inworld like this when I took this shot. Most of the time I'll just have my ava walking along, then all of the sudden the only thing I'm seeing is floor, Click the av's head and the view goes back to normal, but then it will happen again at random.

and this is the triangle issue. Like Cuffman said, it seems to be hollowed-out square prims that do this, and if I try to build a square prim and hollow it out, I can see the triangle start to form there too.

thanks for helping me on this.

No idea what causes that, only time i see a triangle if its set hollow to it .

Only thing i can think of is to avoid drivers higher then 163.75 ,unless they fixed shiney going crap on higher and run SL on a main monitor as some vidcard that run opengl doesnt like being in other then main if you run several screens.
