I treated myself to a new Gateway p-7805u laptop yesterday, duel core, 4gig of ram, nvidia 9800m video card, vista home premium, DX10.
Everytime I attempt to login I get: "Unable to connect to SL. Despite our best efforts something unexpected has gone wrong. Please check the status page to see if there is a known problem with the service."
Ok, it has been checked. Logins are working normally. I've checked out a half a dozen different forums on SL/Laptops and most seem to work fine even with less specs as this gateway.
Does anybody have any advice before I get a premium account for a month for linden support?

If you have a firewall, either software on your computer, or in your modem or router, you'll need to configure it to let SL work. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Firewall_Configuration

What all did you check to determine that there is no firewall in effect?
