Looks like WindowsXP SP3 is out..

Anybody tried it with SL and, if so, any problems with it?

I thought XP wans't available anymore due to Vista replacing it?
Or is it just something to crash XP eventually so we have to buy Vista?

Assuming XP was no longer available (which it is for another month or so), what would its availability have to do with its support? Are you saying you do not want Microsoft to support Windows XP until 2014?

Of course I want support continued, I'm just a bit skeptical as why they wouldn't try push us to Vista, after all it did seem like after XP was proven, Win98 was getting a lot more unstable as it got more updates :)
Personally I like XP, I don't see what Vista can do to improve things that I currently use, the only game I ever seen I wanted that was Vista only, it's sales have flopped accordingly so I'm not interested.

I've been a Vista user for two years, and I like it quite a bit more than XP, but I won't try to convert you.

But yeah, Microsoft is pushing Vista. But their support for XP and their marketing push for Vista are completely unrelated and neither will affect the other. Microsoft isn't going to shoot themselves in the foot when they need to support XP for another six years. XP is pretty much middle aged, its only a bit over halfway through its support lifecycle.

And for the record on SP3, it's a good release. I was in the Beta for quite a while (the Vista SP1 Beta was combined with the XP SP3 beta).

So have some faith : )

I am using SP3 with SL with no problems beyond the usual SL glitches.

My understanding is that WinXP SP3 is PRIMARILY an integration of all Hot Fixes, AKA updates, since SP2. Benefit being that it's much easier to bring a fresh install of WinXP to the latest, fully secure configuration.

To me what that means if current to the latest hotfix and all works well then it's unlikely SP3 itself can inject a new problem. Those who are really knowledgeable feel free to step in!
