I've just tried logging on to SL with no luck what so ever, wouldn't even reach the log on screen, so I've downloaded SL from the website again. I'm trying to reinstall and get an error message saying: "Installer intergrity check has failed. Common causes include incomplete download or damaged media. Contact the installer's author to obtain a new copy." So I re-downloaded AGAIN just to check it wasn't that that was the problem and STILL the same error. I've never had this problem before and to my knowledge nothing has changed on my computer. Any idea?
FYI I'm using Windows Vista. It was all working fine when I logged off last night!
(I saw the blog about a security upgrade, but have no idea if its connected.)

Please help... I'm an addict and need my daily fix!!!

It sounds like your network. Are you on wireless, or a shared connection (like a school) network? .

Nope its a home network. I've tried both wired and wireless. I normally connect fine wirelessly but the first thing I did when there was a problem was to try wired. I'm about ready to throw in the towel! Its been downloading the installer just fine, just won't open the installer (although right now it doesnt even seem to be downloading the installer). Ah! I give up!

Ok If it was working fine then after the update it isnt..why are you assuming its the network.Everytime they force a update this happens. For some unknown reason they just cant leave well enough alone and make things worse.Hun I really dont think its your network.Read the post all over the forums. Its all relating to the update they forced on us .You always have people coming back saying must be on your end cause it works fine for me.Well good it works for you but doesnt help the people having problems one bit so why the hell say that?If you havent done anything with your network or computer settings then after they update it isnt working,,hmmm lets do the math here. Its the the update causing the problems.I know this doesnt help you hun but want you to know you arent a lone.I can get in but cant play the game.I was running the old version 19.4 was working great for me then they force a update and all hell breaks loose. My only thought is why are they forcing issues on everyone, not everyone has the money to go out and buy new hardware just so they can keep up with the jones and their updates. With the cost of living rising in rl computer games are fast coming less important when day to day living takes the driver seat.So again I ask why force a update on us.Only answer is they want to drive us away from playing the game.Sry hun but I feel your pain and frustration and believe me you arent a lone in this matter.

Hi Calista. Let me try to help you too. If the new client doesn't work for you, you can use your older client by adding " --channel old" option to the Target line in the shortcut (on Windows) or in the "Resources/arguments.txt" file (on Mac). If you uninstalled your older version, you can find all previously released clients here: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Old_versionsGood luck!

Ok I'll just clarify... the security update has NOT been installed. I can't get that far! I can get as far as downloading the installer from SL and then I get the NSIS Error message. Nothing has changed with my computer since the last time SL worked... And no updates have been installed on SL.

Well, Shannon, that's just weird and I don't have a great idea.
I can tell you that if it were my machine I would try uninstalling Quicktime. I've never heard of it causing that particular problem, but I HAVE seen it cause problems on SL startup on Vista. It's really a stab in the dark tho, so no hard feelings if you think that's too stupid to try.
*bumping to see if someone else has a better idea* .

Honestly, I'm willing to try ANYTHING right now... 3 hours later and still no change. I'll be getting withdrawal symptoms shortly!
Hmmm strange.... my transfer rate on the modem has just dropped by an incredible amount... I wonder if the SL problem is connected to service provider issues.

Just a quick thanks to you guys for your suggestions... I don't know what the problem was but first try today and its A-OK! (Touch wood). Modem seems to be back up to speed and SL has started and is running perfectly (wirelessly may I add).
Thank you once again for trying to help!

From: Nika Talaj Well, Shannon, that's just weird and I don't have a great idea.

*bumping to see if someone else has a better idea* . I run Vista (32 and 64bit, SP1), also XP (SP3) without issue. If you are using Vista, download the client, go to that download file and Right Hand Click it, choose Run as Administrator.... If you are installing on top of previous versions, uninstall SL fully, including all sub-folders in the /Roam/Application Data/Second Life folders.. run a Registry Cleaner to remove any entries left behind, and try reinstalling SL then. The issue with QuickTime is to do with DEP (Data Execution Prevention), which prevents the player from being able to open without causing a 'error 43' which from the slim-nothing pickings on both MS and Apple's websites and others, is to do with ActiveX. I get a similar issue with Java. However neither of which should cause a problem installing SL in my experience. Some system specs would prove useful.
