Hi, I'm planning on buying a new laptop but I wanted to make sure that Second Life would run on it. Is this okay?:

Intel Core2 Duo processor P7350
4GB DDR2 memory
NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS NB9M-GE graphics

I don't know much about graphics cards and I didn't see that one listed anywhere in the system requirements. Thank you for your help.

Check out Best Buy. I just picked up a Gateway 17 inch laptop, core 2 duo 1.83 ghz, 4 gigs ram, nvidia 8800GTS graphics w/512 discrete video memory,

It is a clearance item. Was originally $1349.00 marked down to $714.00.

So far it is kicking SL's butt. Where before I was at 4 fps in a club, now I am around 22 fps at the same club.

and for best buy's original price you can get better, but that is a good deal on clearance, good eye

back to the op, it would run, probably not super great

the cpu has a good fsb, altho its clock speed could be better (2ghz)

id ask what speed DDR2 ram it has, theres a huge difference tween 533mhz ram and 800+ mhz ram

and the video card is on the weak end, that would be my only real concern

also what is the $ tag

Dartagnan, thank you for the tip, but I just checked out BestBuy.com and the cheapest Gateway 17" they have is $1350 so it's probably sold out.

Osgeld, the laptop is on sale for $1,049.99. The original price was $1,249.99. I thought it sounded good, but I'm disappointed to hear that the video card is weak. I won't get it now. Can you tell me if any of these video cards are considered good for Second Life?:

NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
Nvidia GeForce Go 7150M

I've found a reasonably priced laptop that has the Nvidia GeForce Go 7150M but I'm not sure if it's good enough. Thank you so much for your help.

Dartagnan,
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT

theres your winner, depending on what else is surrounding it

ie you could put a freakin huge engine in a geo, but it wont do much without the gears being right

what price are you looking for?

what screen size are you looking for?

and how much storage do you want?

(for some reason ive been nailing the good laptop for a price range here lately)

we will find you a badass in your budget :)

I went right to the store. They had sold out of the ones they had in stock, but the Best Buy 2 miles down the road had 7 in stock. If you have any near you, I would call.

Ask them for the clearance Gateway.

I was trying to keep it under $1,200. I've found something in my budget that has the 8400. Would the 8400 be good enough to run SL? I don't really need incredible graphics, just something decent. Thank you again for all your help.

theres not a HUGE difference tween the 84 and the 86

but again its not all about graphics, ram, ram speed, cpu speed and cpu fsb can make a world of difference, like between barley moving, vs actually enjoying your time on sl

heres some of my "picks" in the 1200$ range
