Hey everyone,
I recently made the jump from WinXP to Win Vista Ultimate, with an Athlon 64 x2. When I was on XP, voice worked perfectly, no issues at all. But with Vista, it comes and goes. It seems a lot of people have had this issue. My question is, has anyone here been able to get an consistancy with SLVoice and Vista? I'm totally baffled at this, everything else works fine, except Second Life.
I have quit booting up Vista, and am now back to booting up XP to run SL.
Anyone out there able to get it working? Please, share your findings, I would be greatly appriciative.
Thank you, Astray.

Worked for me when i turned it on ,but im rarly using audio in SL. Vista might require audio to allow controll over it, i forgot where that setting was tho, havnt touched vista in awhile, but then again it want to ask stuff all the time with uac on -.-; If they didnt change this tho, there was a setting somewhere that is something like this "allow this device to run in exclusive mode"...something something, so a software can take controll over it or it wouldnt actually use it , but thats been awhile i had to use in vista to get audio to work properly, could be that. Does it show i havnt used vista since xmas or so? : P aha Audio, properties, advanced (x) Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device ^ thats the one

I wish I could offer something useful, but all I can say is that the last few times I was tempted (or coerced) to try voice, it worked fine in Vista Ultimate. I suppose it could be possibly a version-specific thing, where one or more versions of the SL client voice worked fine in Vista, I can't say because I haven't tried in quite a while. But honestly, you may be better off sticking to XP for SL, or for anything else that needs to run faster than Vista can ever seem to manage

Havent had any issues with voice on Vista Ultimate x86 or x64, been running both since release. I always use an account with administrator rights and i have UAC control turned off, other than that there default setups.

Make sure you have your actual sound devices selected in the Audio in control panel and not default in Vista.
Same with SL, go to Talk tab in preferences, click the Device button, and use the drop down boxes to choose your actual devices. If they are not shown, that's because Vista has set Default, which maybe using DirectX drivers.
Check that in the exceptions tab of the Vista Firewall, SLVoice.exe and or SLVoiceClient.exe are checked.
If you use a USB headset, always make sure that is plugged in and enabled before you open the client. USB, like most drivers are only initalised, at the time the client is opened, they are not dynamic.
