Hey all,

You've heard THIS before, I'm sure. I just DL'd this game and it keeps crashing on me (About 6 times in an hour). It's really difficult to get a handle on what SL's all about, obviously, under these conditions.

Here are some of my system specs. If you need more info than this, ya'll have to tell me how to get at it. I use computers all the time, but I'm not really all that tech-savvy.

Gateway E-4000
BIOS Version: Intel Corp. RG84510A.15A.0021.P11.0210160839
Intel Pentium 4 CPU x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 7
2399 MHz

Microsoft XP Home Edition Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2.0
1.50 GB RAM
about 53 GB free space on the hard drive

Radeon 9600 graphics card

Un-related issue, I'm still in the tutorial zone, and I want to re-do the tutorials. But clicking on the signs do nothing. Also, it won't let me click on a sign to LEAVE the tutorial zone and enter SL proper. Is there a command or something I can use to reset my tutorial and do it again?

Thank you, THANK YOU in advance!

I'm sorry you are having trouble. I can't help a lot except to suggest that you go to Edit/Preferences/Graphics and turn down the values to min.

Also go to Edit/Preferences/Network and select Clear Cache. Then reboot SL.

As for Orientation Island, maybe clearing cache will help you a bit. There should be a sign in the central area you can click to leave.

Maybe someone else will know more. I know orientation can be tough; I had to rescue my brother who owns a large successful tech co in RL but still ended up in underpants with a torch on his head in Orientation - you aren't the only one who finds it confusing.

Good luck and I hope other people will be more helpful.

the usuall suspects dust n heat come to mind

sl is a bear of a program, if you have them try running other intense 3d apps (like 3dmark), if not just kinda look around the outside of the pc

if you see dust caking up around any air vents theres 10x as much inside

take it ouside and blow out every nook and cranny, watch the fans they should spin quite freely, and make a whistle sound (dont over do it you can screw up a bering doing that and cause a rattly fan)

also try updating all your drivers, mainbaord video sound ect, do all the service packs to your os (sp3 is handy to have on a cd anyways)

i personally found oreintation island useless, click the search button look for NCI, they have more info than you will ever want on any subject

the basic controls are the arrow keys and the mouse, after that its all shourtcuts

welcome to SL

oh to help you figure out what exactly you have use http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

it will tell you everything you know + more, like your mainboards chipset which should be an IntelĀ® 845G/GL Chipset

dont goto gateway goto intel and get the latest from them, same with the ati card ect
