Strange graphical lag and OpenGL error messages logged

Hi there,

When I navigate in Second Life, my frame rate drops like a stone. Generally if I don't move, I'll get 20-30 fps or higher. If I move in a straight line I generally continue this. The moment I turn the view, the frame rate drops to around 2-3 fps.

My Second Life client is also logging the following error messages over and over again, every few seconds:

2008-03-29T16:05:42Z WARNING: LLImageGL::bindTextureInternal: Trying to bind a texture while GL is disabled!
2008-03-29T16:05:42Z WARNING: LLViewerImage::bindTexture failed.

I had no issues with SL whatsoever until I reinstalled my PC. I'm using the 163.75 Nvidia drivers on a Geforce 7800 GTX 256 since the latest 169 ones have issues, on Windows XP SP2.

I've tried dropping every graphics setting down to the minimum possible. I've tried reinstalling SL and clearing the cache as well.

Can anyone suggest what I can do to sort this out? It makes SL virtually unusuable.

Thanks in advance and let me know if you need more details of any settings.

Success! I found the problem after a bit of trial and error. In my despair of uninstalling and reinstalling the graphics card driver not working, I did some searching and found Driver Cleaner Pro (at least one version is free).

Turns my problem was that I'd started with the latest 169 Nvidia drivers, and an uninstall as according to their instructions doesn't clean off the OpenGL miniport driver. Thus installing 163 didn't actually put the correct driver back on, as it detected a newer file already there. Driver Cleaner Pro highlighted this and deleted it, which meant a reinstall finally worked. My SL is back in business!
