I have tried EVERYTHING to fix this. And I mean everything. I have messed with graphic settings, updated video card drivers, cleared cashe, rebaked textures, went to help island twice with no help, uninstalled and reinstalled SL...Nothing has worked
The first time I was on help island I did get to talk to someone for about 10 seconds and they said something about a file being corrupted or whatever. Well then this is SL's problem and not mine. And if it's one of my skin tones/clothing/or any other item that I have paid for they better send me some lindens so I can replace them.
Has anyone else successfully fixed this and can explain what I can do to fix it? Or does anyone more advanced have an suggestions on how I can fix this problem?
I'm thinking it's one of my skin tones but once I switch it corrupts the skin tone I switched too then everything I put on is black. It has moved to clothing items too. It has nothing to do with attachments but texturing items such as clothing/skin/eyes etc. etc.
Someone help me!

It's an issue seen repeatedly. https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-857;jsessionid=C9FA0B0D467E0E5648158DD188E86461 for an example. We had it, and were told it was a 'memory leak'. We uninstalled SL, then physically did a search for any file or folder for SL, and deleted them as well. Then we ran an antivirus, spybot, and defragged the computer. We then reinstalled SL and have not had another problem. Hope it helps you.

I have the same problem of avitar going all black then I have lost all the text when running windows XP. I have dual screens so have diconnected one screen and all worked well. while running under linux(ubuntu 8.10) dual screen works realy well and is a lot faster.
so seems to me an incompatabillity with widows and dual screen and the nvidia 6800 driver. have installed latest drivers as well hope this helps |

avatar black in the KB search. It suggests turning Avatar Skinning off. Some low end graphics processors have trouble displaying skins properly, like old onboard gpu's, ones that really can't handle SL. _____________________

There are a fair few reasons for the black avatar, the most common one has already been referred to by Monalisa. The suggestion made by Keysha Jaxxon seems entirely sound and it does take a bit of work to see something through. You may also have to look at that lovely new hardware you are running and remember that Nvidia is not always blameless in situations such as these. I remember an issue a while back concerning the Nvidia 8 series so sometimes the fault may not lie within SL. The Knowledge Base suggested by Baloo is also excellent to search through; even if you find yourself reading duplicate reports, each one will carry lots of views and comments by others who are willing to see an issue sorted.
I hope your SL runs smoothly once you have tried the various help that has been offered. |
