Do to some inquiries on the boards I thought I would undertake the task of seeing how long strings can be...

so I made a test that made long strings, checking for when # characters added != llStringLength(). At worst I thought I would get the stack/heap error that others got. Imagine my suprise when 2 seconds after compiling I get a message that the Sim has crashed.

I feel really bad and I gladly accept whatever punishment the Lindens want to give me. :/

Sorry!

for what its worth - max string length is somewhere between 5300 and 5400 characters....

LOL Madox, you aren't going to be punished! We all have crashed a sim at one time or another! As long as you didn't do it INTENTIONALLY, its probably alright. :)

Actually, don't feel too bad... I wrote a script with the same purpose last night (I wanted to determine the max string length myself) and it caused the same effect in Kissling. In case anyone is interested, I believe it was around 5376 before Kissling had too much....

Seems like a really odd reason for the sim to crash, since I thought each script was in it's own protected memory space....
