I have been using sl happily for over 1 year. My current pc is a DELL Dimension C521 and sl works perfectly. I have bought a new machine (Inter quad core, 3 Gb memory, GeForce 9500 GS, 4mb DSL broadband connection etc.). sl runs fine for about 10 mins and then starts 'not responding' for about 2 mins. When it comes back It is as if the client is working but it has lost contact with the servers. This will keep happening and when I try to exit it will not respond. The only way I can recover control of the PC is to turn it off and on again. This problem does not occur when web brousing. In fact it will only occur when I run SL. I am about to approach the PC manufacturer and I wonder if anyone could indicate what is happening to sL. The 4Gb broadband link is the same for both machines. Everything is the same (Network and SL client) except for the PC...which suggests that it must be an issue with the PC. The 10 mins mentioned above is variable, it can be shorter or longer. Could it be a overheating problem? Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks, Denise
BTW I posted a ticket on the support site on the 2/1/09 and it still has not beeen looked at. Is there a LL quality standard for thye max response time to queries

If it is a constant issue, and the PC has its own direct connection (i.e. connection sharing and not through a router), maybe you have 'timeout' set for the connection?
Overheating maybe an issue, perhaps with the network card. Try dusting the system out, especially the power supply vents, also all the vents in the case and the heatsinks inside the PC (gently).
When you say "The 4Gb broadband link is the same for both machines. Everything is the same (Network and SL client) except for the PC" do you have a Mac or something also sharing the connection? Have you tried updating the Network card drivers from Dell?
Are you using a wireless connection?

SL Freezing problem with new PC

2 PCs are connecxted via ethernet cables through router to 4Gb broadband DSL. Problem PC (new one) is a German TARGA brand. Brand new so presumably all drivers are up-to-date.

Pressuming the drivers are up to date is not a wise one. You should always double check with the manufacturers website first, as they provide many of the inboard drivers for items such as network interface. Depending on your Graphics Chip setup, they may also provide specific drivers. Updating Windows is also another must. When I first received Vista disc, (hot off the press), it spent the next few hours downloading and installing several GB's of updates. A lot of new systems come with 'trail' software such as virus checkers, they maybe stealing cpu cycles from SL's processes, they may also be scanning the SL cache as you download new textures/data, if that is the case, try setting up so that it ignores those folders. When your system freezes, press Ctrl+Alt+Del keys and start Task Manager, look at programmes and processes running, this may indicate what is happening.
