I've been trying to log in since I download SL but it doesn't want to work. I get the error message; Unable to connect to Second Life. Despite our best efforts, something unexpected has gone wrong. My computer meets all the system requirements and when i try it on my laptop (which hardly meets any system specifications) it works! But with terrible lag.

It's something in the computer configuration that has the problem. However no one can even hazzard a guess without something to go on.
Computer specs is a nice place to start. |

What kind of internet service is it?
Wired or wireless network? Have you tried turning computer, modem, router, etc. off for a few minutes? Are there other people using SL on the network? What operating system? _____________________

Check your video driver version........the 8500GT will work with the 175.19 driver version available at nVidia's website (check the "beta and archived" link on the driver search page). Also check to make sure your firewall is not blocking SL. Does your laptop also have Vista for the OS? If so check to see how it's configured to run and compare it to the computer that does not run SL. Norton Anti Virus has had issues with SL in the past. Check to make sure your network is configured to allow the computer in question to have the same access as the laptop. Check to see what programs you having running in the background...........close any that are not necessary.

You might be better off contacting Microsoft or your computer manufacturer. That's weird. And that is not anything to do with SL. You need admin rights to make changes to the system configuration...........and your configuration is causing your problems.

Looks like you were saying admin mode isn't working.
yeah admin mode doesn't work either though Do you have Norton installed? I'm not seeing you say you have it at all. Maybe you should run a tracert or use the winmtr program and report your ping times and packet loss and junk like that. http://suezannecbaskerville.wordpress.com/second-life-packet-loss-from-the-sl-kb/ _____________________

Enable Web Proxy value in the Edit->Preferences->Web menu. You can find your proxy settings in your web browser options. |

Okay, something different just happened...
I tried to hop onto second life, but I realized that the internet was definately turned off. But, this time the loading icon appeared for about 6-7 seconds instead of a 0.345632146837477376483265487578470 second flash. Could this mean anything??? |
