So last night Im at a party and somebody says, " dude, your so short today". As far as I could tell I was the same height Id always been. Then they send me a pic that they just took of me and I looked like a dwarf mutant version of myself. Two others in the room also agreed I looked mutant-ized. Then a friend of mine lands and HE is mutantized. So I send him a pic of himself looking funky. Seemed to be happening to quite a few people there, tho some could see the strange effects while others saw nothing abnormal. Whats up with that?

Ruth strike again, ok not really, its a bug with cache (?), sometimes you look diffrent on other peoples screen, usually its missing lower part of your av, so you look really freaky on their client.

Clean SL cache, or relog usually fix it, highly annoying ;P, if you ever go to a place wich has either wierd looking avs (arent we all o.O?) or invis av's just floating attachments, relog/delete cache, and they should be fine, <.<
I had it happen in Welcome area earlier, couldnt see people, so i relogged, back in still same, delete cache, relog, i could see them, grrr.

Heard the term 'packet loss' one too many times in my brief history here at SL.

Im sure the Lindens have a huge collection of mutant avie pics. Saw it again the other day when a friend of mine landed with us at an amusement park. He seemed dwarfed and half female. Looks like its time to start keeping a mutant photo album over at the snapzilla site

Ayuh Ruth is a totally oldskool thing. No fix to this point, but teleporting has gotten better so there is hope.

I had it happen in Welcome area earlier, couldnt see people, so i relogged, back in still same, delete cache, relog, i could see them, grrr.

I've had this kinda thing happen to me many times, my usual fix is to fly stright up a few hundred meters and back down, this seems to make SL reload the area. It seems to work about 90% of the time, when it doesn't, I just fly up higher. I have a flight boost, so it only takes me a few seconds to fly 300-400m up and back.

Maybe Ruth, Maybe Not

If the av appears short, with a goofy haircut, and a female when it should not be, then it is what is referred to as being "Ruthed". "Ruth" is an av in the library that for some reason loads before your regular av. If you go into the library and drag "Ruth" onto yourself, you'll find it strangely familiar.

At least that's what I hear.

Recently I've also been seeing people a lot shorter than normal, though, too. It's like they have most of their normal attributes... but are just dwarfed in some attributes especially height. That's probably the "packet loss" others have described.

Ruthing and Packet Loss. It's different =P

Ruth was a famous celebrity, back in the old days of SL. She was friendly and chatty, and well liked. However, one day, in the forums, as it happened, during the midst of some drahma, she finally snapped and vowed vengeance on all of SL for eternity.

It got so bad, that eventually, Lindens, mounted on hippos and carrying shotguns hunted her down, and finally ended her existance. Legend has it that she was buried under the wall in Jessie.

It didn't stop there however. Her spirit still haunts SL and sometimes, she possessed the body of an innocent. Usually, people can shake her off quickly, but Ruth-Possession is a serious condition and more than one avatar has been almost destroyed by this curse.

There are other ghosts in SL too. You can find information in the forums on the cases of Echo Omega and Raven Linden (the ghost of 1.4)...
