I uninstalled the old version, installed 1.4.0, it says 1.4.0 in the bottom roght corner, yet when i log in it tells me that I need to update. Am I missing sonething?

Yes, on minor version release days we normally go through at least two revision updates before things settle down.

you might trying downloading the whole update from the website as opposed to updating by logging in. This usually clears up the problem you are seeing.
I've had it happen before.
