Alt Zooming has gone mad.
The camera used to work real nice in SL before all the fancy scripted camera functions and the snapshot freeze frame and the new camera adjustments in preferences. It used to work and be fun to cam around. Now it's torment.
I've used different versions of Catalyst and different versions of SL, the current one, the preceding one, the Cool Viewer, the Nicholaz viewer, although I haven't tried every possible combination of viewer and Catalyst.
Alt Zoom is being messed up now with Nicholaz Eye Candy and Catalyst 8.10.
Is there anything to do to make the camera and alt clicking zoom?
The camera will twitch back and forth. The camera will stick in place and only pivot around when it should move. The camera will just go nuts like it was drunk and on speed, moving wildly around at the slightest provocation.
It's one of those things that's kind of funny, but would be a lot funnier if it was happening to someone else.

Suezanne, You can go ahead and laugh now, because I've been getting totally frustrated with the cam too! Camming out to look at something has been screwed up for me for quite a while now. I first noticed it after one of Lindens "upgrades". There was always a limit to how far out you could go, but it acted nothing like it does now. You'd think somebody at Linden might have noticed by now that a major problem exists with such a commonly used function. Or maybe none of them ever use the cam function. Who knows? Once the cam gets out beyond 10 meters or so, it's anybody's guess where it will go next. It used to be that I could rotate the view in a tight arc around my avatar, but now all I can get it to do is move in a wide arc. I know I'm dense, but I've tried changing everything I can think of in Preferences, and nothing has helped. Or am I just missing the right adjustment? jem Dumpling

Partly due to http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-6714 , maybe? From: VWR-6714 Camera oscillates forward and back
With the camera position in normal avatar cam view (not mouselook) the camera begins oscillating backward and forward rapidly (3-4 times/sec) about 3 meters. This has happened several times in the past few days. Hitting escape will stop the behavior. It appears to be related to alt-click focusing on either my avatar or an object, but isn't reproducible. I've heard this: is actually a sim bug, has been fixed for a while now, has not been released into the wild because (like many things) they're trying to get the mono all stable.

Why do they have the sim controlling the avatar's default camera position anyway, instead of letting the client figure it out?

Dunno. Andrew fixed it - he'd probably know.

I had tried Catalyst 8.10, 8.9, 8.8, 7.12 and 7.11 with no luck.
I installed Catalyst 6.11 and the camera is back to normal. (or was for several hours yesterday)

From: SuezanneC Baskerville I had tried Catalyst 8.10, 8.9, 8.8, 7.12 and 7.11 with no luck. I installed Catalyst 6.11 and the camera is back to normal. (or was for several hours yesterday) You have no idea how much I thank to you because I installed an updated of Catalyst 9 last 2 or 3 weeks ago and, I didn't come to SL (due on busy in real life) I came back to SL and started to build, my face turned white because everything wasn't working since few days... because of my update. My love with building is so important to me because of SHIFT + ALT zoom gone nut, like really really mad! I thought what did I do wrong? Maybe could be video but wonder which version and blah blah blah. Glad you pointed it out, it's version "6.11" and it was indeed worked out SO well. Everything is back to normal 100%. Thank you! But sadly, it's almost "old version" SL needs to push to fix the problem first then I can able to update again (most games needs update but SL...) Sorry about bad English by the way. *grin*
