Video Keeps Freezeframing

about five times a day my video freezeframes. i can hear sounds, the sound play/stop button works if i click that spot, i can hear it when i click the menus or right click things, but all i see is the same exact picture, no change. i hear typing and can type but i see no chat. my view is completely stuck like someone laid a screenshot over me. the only thing that fixes it is relogging. sometimes it reboots my computer if i don't catch it in time.

a couple times i've had what appears to be the 512x512 texture of a random piece of clothing i'm wearing show up laid over the top left of the screen. once it was apparently my face texture. when i logged back in my clothes were replaced with that texture. goodbye clothes.

the only thing that i can figure out is it seems to happen when i move my view. i have the latest video drivers, motherboard drivers, directX, whatever.

also, i have bug reported this in game almost every time it happens. that's alot of bug reports and i've never gotten a single acknowledgement. not even "bug report sent". is it a black hole?

Sounds like your graphics card is overheating and/or malfunctioning.

Update your drivers. Take your case off and play for a long while. If you don't crash with the case off, you have a cooling problem, and need better fans (or frozen peas or something).

Zuzu, just fyi I had to down grade my video drivers. I still crash, but not that often. Most of the time I don't crash at all.

thanks Moleculor. i gave that a shot and with my case open i've only frozen like that a couple times. looks like that's the problem although my video card seemed only reasonably warm to the touch.

what irks me is Linden could have saved me days of frustration if my mountain of bug reports had even gotten the response "cool video more". there's no indication bug reports don't evaporate when you send them or even that it sends them at all. frustrating.

  1. The 10th was a weekend. LL doesn't operate on weekends.
  2. LL doesn't have a thermostat inside your computer, so while they could GUESS like I did, it might not be the right guess.
